General Discussion / Factory to the Rescue
« on: March 03, 2016, 09:36:55 pm »
We been in Florida for about a week.  On Tuesday our entry door latch broke and we could not open the coach door.  After an aborted repair attempt at a local Camping World, I called the factory and spoke with Carol.  She had a replacement latch in stock and agreed to have it shipped to our Florida address.  Carol called back later in the day to confirm shipping cost.  It turned out that next day doubled the cost of the part, so Carol shipped it tow day.  We received the latch today and as Carol assured me it was an quick and easy replacement.  Thank you Carol for the serivce!

Spotted my first PC today while driving east on Monocacy Blvd  The PC, probably a 2551 or 2552 was westbound heading for RT 15.  Fun to see a PC around Frederick MD.

General Discussion / Re: Winterizing
« on: November 03, 2015, 05:05:32 pm »
Thanks to everyone for comments.  I have added these to my checklist.  Several of you commented about the Camco water pump by pass kit.  I have one and was reluctant to install it because the documentation I have from Sureflo (pump manufacturer for the pump in my PC) suggested that restricting the input side to the pump was not a good idea.  I looked at the nice brass valve and it looked very restrictive to me, so I did not install the kit until I learn more about the water pump.

I did winterize today taking advantage of the unseasonably warm temperatures in the Mid Atlantic states.  The process went very well.

Thanks again to everyone for your comments.

General Discussion / Winterizing
« on: November 02, 2015, 08:19:06 am »
Sharon and I have completed our first season in our PC.  We have enjoyed the camping experience at soaring contests this summer.  We are busy planning our 2016 season.
As first time owners, this is the first time I will be going through the winterizing process and i hopped to eliminate costly mistakes.  I have read everything I could find on our Forum on the topic.  I had number of off line e-mail exchanges with Tom Hanlon clarifying the process.  I then generated a checklist to ensure that i would not miss any critical step during my first winterization.  Tom Hanlon was kind enough to review my checklist and reorder a couple of steps to ensure that all the water would be drained from the plumbing; added other good to do maintenance items.  Tom also suggested that I post my check list here
I want to give Tom Hanlon a very special thank you.  He has always been available by e-mail and telephone to help this neophyte RV'er with lots of questions as Sharon and I were learning the PC and its systems.  THANK YOU TOM!
As our season is over I expect to winterize our PC this week.  Below is my checklist for your review.  Any additions and corrections will be incorporated and appreciated:

General Discussion / Re: Macerator not working?

I forgot to mention that as i recall Kermit told me that the macerator is protected by a self resetting relay not a fuse.  I don't recall where he said it was located, but his first guess was that the switch was bad.

I had the same problem with my macerator earlier this year.  I took the cap off and was able to turn the macerator with a screw driver.  I called the factory and spoke with Kermit and he told me that it is rare for the macerator to fail and it was probably the switch.  I traced the wires and took the switch out of the circuit to test if the switch was bad and the macerator worked.  The switch was a rocker switch which the factory replaced with a toggle switch.  I hope this helps!

I found several Group 27 batteries that I though would fit the battery tray on the PC at Battery One (Excide and Crown) and Battery Warehouse.  You might check those sources near you.

Hi,
I replaced the coach batteries in my new to me 2008 2551 in late January.  I went to S&S RV Super Service Center (recommended by Tom Hanlon).  George at S&S recommended Astro-Lite Group 27 Deep Discharge Marine batteries (12 volt).  He also tested the charging systems both from the vehicle alternator and the Trip Lite Inverter/Charger.  I had a very good experience with S&S and would recommend them.
I see that you are in PA, but I don't know how far you are from Gettysburg.

General Discussion / Re: Ford 350 vs 450
« on: December 30, 2014, 09:50:15 am »
Judi,
Check the cargo caring capacity of a 2551 on a E-350.  I believe that the 350's gross weight is about 2000 pounds less than a 450.  Also, reading on this forum you will find that E-350 owners have made many suspension changes to make their rigs handle better.  In November I purchased a 2008 2551 on a E-450 and so far have not been disappointed in the handling and according to the factory placard I have about 2600# cargo caring capacity (I have not weighed the PC yet to confirm the weight - on the list of things to do).

General Discussion / Re: Swapping out the inverter...
« on: December 18, 2014, 03:28:30 pm »
If the inverter is turned off, and your on shore or generator line power, the receptacles powered by the inverter are still hot (at least in my 2551) so these receptacles must be powered by both line power and inverter.  Does that make sense?  Still trying to learn about the coach electrical system.

Thanks,

David

Thanks,

Thanks for the welcome Ron.  I have read the Tricks and Tips section paying particular attention to your post on the Tripp Lite Inverter/Charger.  I am still trying to understand the coach electrical system and will likely have questions specific to the Tripp Lite system.  I will ask for help for sure!
