General Discussion / Re: Replace Seats???
« on: July 20, 2024, 07:02:24 am »
Rick and Erika,

We tried to replace our seats before having them recovered.  The issue we ran into was that both of our seats swiveled and none of the seats they tried would still allow our seats to swivel.

So just a word of caution, if you have a seat that swivels make sure they check that it will still work.

We took our seats out of the PC and took them to an automotive restoration shop.  Not cheap but look very nice.  We had them covered with Naugahyde instead of any leather products.  We are very pleased!

Naugahyde (automotive vinyl) is still manufactured in the USA.  This is what we used to redo our PC.  So not all vinyl is manufactured in China.  It was a lot less expensive then 100% real leather and has been around for over 50 years.

Naugahyde is made in Wisconsin and we felt it was our best option for price, maintenance and durability.

I think it is a personal choice for people to use what they feel will work for them.  Just like shocks, some preferred Koni while others preferred Bilstein.  But neither one is right or wrong. It’s all a matter of personal choice.   Some prefer to have levelers installed, others not.  Again, personal choice.   Some prefer full body paint, others not.  Again it is all personal choice.

We used a local car restoration shop that restores hot rods and antique cars.  We shopped around at different upholstery shops and even though we paid a lot they were the most reasonable.  Upholstery shops wanted 3-4 thousand dollars and we got this done for 2 thousand.  This was just for the captains chairs and extra material.
We priced new chairs but couldn’t find any that allowed both chairs to swivel.  We are on our third winter with them and they still look brand new.

We had the flaky issue on our seats and all interior surfaces on our 2012.  We had the seats reupholstered at an automotive shop and we did the other surfaces ourselves.  We decided to use the automotive vinyl versus leather or ultra leather.  We ordered extra material from an automotive material manufacturer.  It was very reasonably priced.  They sent us color samples and we picked the color that matched our existing PC color.
It was a little intimidating at first but soon realized the most you had to do was to take the trim off the cabinets on the inside, loosen the cabinet but leave it attached to the wall and then remove the pieces that needed recovering.  I made patterns from the old ultra leather and then we proceeded to recover everything, including the valences.   It does take two people to attach the new material and an electric staple gun is your friend.
Our coach looks brand new on the inside.  We are very pleased.

General Discussion / Re: Fogging Window
« on: November 12, 2023, 01:43:15 pm »
Lance,

I am looking at repairing one of my foggy windows.  I can't figure out how the top part of the window comes apart.  There is black metal brace/trim/bar that looks to be attached to the glass and frame.  How do you remove the seal on that part of the window.  Maybe it is not even attached to the frame or to the window,  I am just unsure.

Thanks
Barry

Larry,

The very first cabinet we (driver's side by slideout) we took off.  Found it was alot easier to not remove the cabinet.  We just loosened them up and slid the upholstered piece out and back in.  We also did not replace the padding.  The padding was in great shape.  I will send you pictures in a couple of days.  I have to download them off my phone.  I did post some on the facebook page so you might be able to search for them there.  Yes, it was intimidating at first but then we actually enjoyed the challenge.  It does take two people and alot of pictures so you can refer back to the original folds.  Also do not throw the old ones out till you are finished incase you need to refer to them or recut a piece.  They make good patterns (I traced them on the new fabric and then cut them out).

Larry,

We recovered all the sides of our cabinets ourselves.  Very pleased with the outcome.  Intimidating at first but then it was enjoyable.

Our 2350 2008 and 2551 2012 both had Paul’s seating.  Kermit had him replace the skins on our 2012 but they flaked as well.  We had them reupholstered at an auto shop two years ago.

Link is service manual for Norcold fridge.  On our 2012 it was the thermistor.  Easy test and cheap $35 fix.  Page 20 of manual.

Worth a try.

If you find it’s the seal, they are not replaceable.  Must buy a new door.  We bought window seal at Home Depot and placed it all around the door of fridge and freezer.  Worked perfect all winter in Florida.

This is the link to the service manual.  Ours was a thermistor failure.  Easy test and cheap $35 fix.  Information is on page 20 on how to test the thermistor.

Might be worth a try.  Ours is. A 2012.

If you click on the above link you can see the dual recliners we installed.  They are made by IMG Comfort and we are very pleased with them.  They are not RV specific chairs but they have been super!

We are in a park in Florida with another PC.  We both needed to order parts so we contacted Dave Ponsler.  Dave did a tremendous job in getting us our needed parts.  THANK YOU Dave.  PC never disappoints!!
