The back up camera monitor on our 2008 2551 is a "Zone Defense" model that will accept inputs from 3 cameras.  I've not checked out the wiring inputs very well, but I suspect that a separate wire would have to be run from each camera to the monitor.  When our monitor powers on the default camera input comes on and is a blue screen.  I then have to change the input so that the back up camera image shows on the monitor.  I wish someone knew how to reprogram the monitor to power up to the back up camera input so I don't have to cycle through the inputs on start up.  Any ideas???

While on our way home from Elkhart after just purchasing our 2551, the house batteries went dead and we could not get the generator started.  I talked with Stuart about the problem and he said that they were probably ready for replacement anyway, so he told me to buy two new batteries and send him the bill.  (What great service, don't you think?)  Anyway, I had replaced the house batteries in our Pleasure Way just last year with the Marine batteries from Wal-Mart.  They were the most powerful that would fit in the slider tray, and without hesitation I went back to Wal-Mart for the new ones for our PC.  Their marine batteries fit well in the PC, provide plenty of power, and can be replaced at any Wal-Mart around the country, (if need be).  The price is also very competitive.  IMHO there is no other choice that makes for a better value.

GoPhoenix:  thanks so much for the photo of your TP holder.  Yesterday I went to Lowes, bought very much the same holder and towel bar and mounted them with super heavy duty double-stick tape.  I'm hoping they stay in place so I don't have to drill holes for more traditional mounts.

Thanks so much for the advice.  Since I'm looking to purchase a vehicle to tow, I probably need to look for something lighter to start with so I don't push the limit of the 2551 itself.   Appreciate all the info!  The search continues.....

Do I need to actually weigh the Grand Cherokee, or can I go by the curb weight?  The 2002 GC I'm looking at has a curb weight of 3970 lbs.  According to Edmunds.com the Liberty is within 100 or so lbs. of the curb weight of the Grand Cherokee.  What do you suggest?

We're getting ready for our first extended trip in the 2551 and wondering if anyone has experience towing a Jeep Grand Cherokee.  I've seen Ron's Jeep Liberty set-up (in photos) and an HHR, but didnt' run across any Grand Cherokees.

You should also be able to run any TV's and DVD players while the inverter is on and your are not plugged into AC.  That is the way ours is wired since none of those items are 12 volt.  You should probably check any manuals you have on the appliances (TV, DVD, coffee maker, etc) to see how many amps they draw and record that information somewhere.  Then you will know which appliances you can have on and operating with power supplied by the inverter.  Your house battery capacity will determine how many and how long you can operate any AC electrical appliances before they will need to be recharged.  Also keep in mind that the TV's, DVD players etc. always have some current draw while they are plugged in even though you may not be watching them.  That will draw down your batteries while using the inverter as well.  I always keep the TV's and DVD player unplugged until I use them.  Hope that helps some.

I too would like to know if anyone has experience using a tow dolly behind any PC model.  I've been trying to decide whether to use a dolly or the four wheel down method.  Since neither of our current vehicles are capable of being towed by either method, we would have to invest in a third vehicle anyway.  With the tow dolly any front wheel drive car should work, but if I go the four wheel down method, I'd be limited to those approved by the manufacturer for 4-wheel towing.

General Discussion / New Sun Shades!

We just installed the sun shades purchased when we took delivery on the 2008 PC 2551 in June.  Wow what a difference they make in heat transfer through the windshield and side glasses!  Had the PC sitting in the driveway facing East with the late morning sun bearing down right through the windshield.  (Did not plan it that way, just the way my driveway is located.)  After my son and I got the side glass shades on, we laid out the windshield screen so we could position the inside magnets properly for installation.  I could tell right away that there was very little heat transfer.  After finishing the installation of the magnets we left the shades on for a couple of hours and I was amazed at how much the shades reduce the heat inside the cab area. That means the roof AC unit can cool the rest of the coach better.  If you don't have a set of these new sun shades, I would heartily recommend you make the investment.

On our 2008 PC 2551 there is a valve on the exterior driver's side in the area of the shore water connections that I thought was the drain for the potable water tank.  I haven't used it, but that was what I was told when we took delivery.  Perhaps the location of the valve has changed in more recent years, but where mine is located couldn't be easier for draining.

You certainly won't be disappointed at all when you move up from your Pleasure Way to a PC.  We traded our 2000 PW Excel this June for a 2008 PC 2551 and are truly excited about traveling in it.  We looked at a lot of brands and floor plans for a year or so and nothing we saw could compare to the fit, finish, and quality of the PC.  I may be biased, but it sounds to me like the 2551 or 2552 is going to be the perfect home away from home for you and your sister due to the twin bed layout.  Best of luck in your travels!

General Discussion / Smoke & CO2 Detectors

When we picked up our 2551, I noticed that the smoke and CO2 detectors were missing from their mounts on the ceiling so I called back to Stuart and he arranged for new ones to be sent.  I now have both and ready to install them, but not sure which location I should use for which.  One mount is close to the cab area and the other is further back closer to the A/C unit.  I was thinking the smoke detector should be furthest away from the galley toward the front, but I need to know for sure how they are located in other 2551's.  Help, please!
