General Discussion / San Con Mascerator Pump

Has anyone had to replace the mascerator pump in the San Con System?   Mine began to make weird noises at the end of last season and has totally stop working.  It sounded like it had rocks in it when it did work.  I was wondering how hard is it to replace the pump.  Is it something a person can take on him self  or should I take it back to the factory to have it done.

Has anyone had a problem with the maserator pump developing a noise like it has rocks or some thing in it.  Am concerned the pump might be going bad. It still pumps tanks ok but is just noisy

you're lucky.  When I got back from Florida last spring I knew I had rust underneath.  I did not look at the step  box until reading these posts.  I will definitely  do the step box and all the other areas that I did lasst spring.  You just confirmed my thoughts about how to do the job.  I hope i never have to repeat last year's trip down.  I drove the first  60 miles on black ice.  I had no idea I was doing so much damage to underside of my motor home.  Thanks for the advice.

All of your posts prommpted me to check my 2012 2552 and found the same problem rust.  I figure it is a result of my trip down to Florida last winter.  One question I have , did anyone remove the electric step before applying chassis saver.  It would seem that there probably is rust under the step.  I also found rust on other things under motorhome and plan treat them as well.  How far doesa quart of this stuff go?

General Discussion / traveling I 70 west of Denver

I am planning a trip to Arizona and Utah in September driving our 2551 with a car in tow.  I am thinking of returning to Indiana via I 70 from Utah.  I am a little worried about the mountain driving.  Will the 2551 do well in the mountain passes considering the 12000 ft. height.  I am inexperienced in mountain driving and this is a little intimidating. I would like to hear from any of you that have used this route and your experiences.

Thanks to both of you.  I will call the factory on Monday and see if they can sell me some stain.  I am building the tables from Cherry wood.

I have Dish and just installed a receiver to my satellite dish.  It was not hard to do.  Read my reply on the more recent post on satellite dish.  If you do not have Direct TV at home already you might want to look into Dish instead.  They are very RV friendly.

We have Dish at home for our TV service.  We dropped cable years ago because they did not carry the BIG TEN network.  We have been resonably satisfied with Dish.  Had to trim a few trees a few years back but that is about it.  When we bought a 2012 2551 in May, I negotiated a satellite dish as part of the deal.  Phoenix installed the dish for us at the factory.  We attended the Good Sam Rally in Louisville where we took part in a Dish Seminar.  I found out that since I was already a Dish customer I could add my own receiver to my plan for 7 bucks a month.  I bought the receiver at Camping world and installed it my self without to much trouble.  We plan on using it this winter to watch Purdue basketball in Florida.  If you do not have a satellite receiver installed on your unit you might want to look into Dish's Tailgater unit.  It is less expensive and could be totally installed by your self.  It also would have the advantage of moving around to find a clear view of the southern sky since it is not permanently attached to your motor home.  Dish also has special plans for motor homes if you do not have it at home.  I cannot comment on internet or phone.  We get our internet through AT&T along with our land line.  We just invested in a wireless hot spot from Verizon for our internet while we are in the motor home.  Hope this helps.  By the way you will have to use cable or the antenna for local TV channels, since Dish only gets local channels for the area around your home.  Dish has a special section on their WEB site just for RV's.  They also have specialized customer service for RV customers.

General Discussion / Need advice on traveling south from Inidana

I am traveling south at the end of January.  Since this is my first such venture, I am not sure how to handle the water tanks and winterizing.  Would it be best to leave things winterized until I get south and plan to stay in hotel rooms on the way down or do some of you fill your water tank and turn the heat on to keep it from freezing.  If anyone has some thoughts or experience, I would appreciate hearing from you.  Thanks

We had a serious vibration in our unit every time the compressor kicked in.  I talked to the factory rep at the Good Sam rally in Louisville who put in contact with a local service center.  They took one look at it and determined he compressor was bad.  The factory replaced the whole unit.  We have not used the AC much yet but have used the heat strips a lot on a recent trip to Maine.  I will say the blower is loud.  But the vibrations from the compressor seemed to be gone after a short test when  the new unit was installed.  I am not sure you can do much about the loud fan.  It does not seem to bother my wife or I when we sleep.  In fact we used the heat strip exclusively at night to heat heat the PC at night.  The noise from the fan was minor compared to the vibrations from the compressor.  I am no sure this helps you but you have my simpathy.

Adventure Anywhere / Planning a trip to Maine and Cape Cod

We are planning a trip to Maine and Cap Cod from Indiana the last week of September and the first week of October.  Do any of you have suggestions for places to visit and campgrounds to stay in on our trip?

You could also equalize your grey and black tanks several times and then dump less often.  Read up on it in the san-con literatrue that came with your motor home.  I tried this twice at the Louisville Good Sam rally since my 2551 also has a 23 gallon grey tank.  We were dry camping with no way to dump and with two of us using the shower we filled up the grey tank in about one day.  It worked great.  When we got home I dumped both my tanks as usual.  Neither one was full.  We probably could have gone one more day dry camping.  I have not  used the motor home yet in an RV park with full hook up.  I understand you can continuously drain the grey tank but have no experience with it.
