Title: Small insects and screens
Post by: palaback on April 13, 2022, 10:57:10 pm
We are getting ready to do a trip where tiny biting gnats (no-see-ums) may be present. Was wondering how well the PC screens work for this, and some tricks on how to handle this.

Are you referring to screens that go in front of the chassis grill?  If so we have them and it does a great job of keeping the bugs from entering into the engine compartment.  The grill snaps off and on for easy cleaning.

We love to camp up river from Moab Utah at the BLMs.  The tiny insects come right through the screens and swarm around the lights.  I capture them using a wet wash cloth.  The best way to deal with it all is to work in the dark or with the windows closed.  But being so hot, closed windows and no generator makes it a difficult scenario.

We use an electrical device called a Kathy insect trap. Its about the size of a half gallon milk carton but only about 6-8 high. Has a blue light to attract and a fan that then sends them down to a sticky pad.  Been using it all winter in Florida and have gone through a couple of pads. One draw back being the light which is somewhat bright when the coach lights are off night.
