Title: A 3100 possible purchase question
Post by: RichardP on March 28, 2012, 05:17:01 pm
Hello all.  This is my first post, so be gentle with me.  I have been reading most of the fine things you all share, so I figure you are the ones to help me out.

We sold our Newmar Ventana (39' DP) a few months ago, and we are still looking for the right Class C for us.  I like the floorplan of the 3100, and we have not had the opportunity to see one yet.  My wife said something to me about the bed arrangement the other day that never occurred to me.  She wasn't sure she wanted to sleep "...with her head in the toilet."  Since the beds do seem to be set up so that the head is near the bath I am wondering how to sell/convince her that this is not a problem.  Your suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Richard

Richard,

We have the 2551 that has the same bed/beth arrangement as the 3100.  We just spent 3 months in it and it never even occurred to us.  There is a headboard and wall on each of the beds and the bath door does slide so could be kept closed if it ever did present a problem.  What I like about it is those middle of the night runs are not far away!!

I have a 2551 which has the twin beds in the middle with the bathroom in the back. I guess you could say that my head is near the toilet - realistically about 3-4 feet away.  We leave the bathroom door open at night and I have never noticed any bad smells from it, nor has my wife.  We will usually have the AC blowing fairly hard on us in hot weather and the windows open with the Fantastic on high sucking in outside air when it's cool.  At any rate, if your plumbing is working right, I don't believe you'll have a problem.  Being old, I like having the toilet near me during the night.

I agree with both previous posts. We have a 2551 and the head in the rear has never been a problem when sleeping; in fact, it is very convenient to have the head that close.

Thanks Sue and Jerry for getting me off to a good start.  I am out of town right now, so I had my wife log on and read your responses.  You had her laughing, so maybe we are making progress!

I like that in our 2552 as well. That way, when I have to use it at night, all I have to do is roll over.

We've had a 2551 and now have a 2552 - both w/the head arrangement you are referring and we never even thought about it until reading your post.  Agree with the other posts i nthat we never noticed anything.

Add us to the list of sleeping with my head near the head in our 2552. Besides when I am a sleep who cares.

Welcome to our little band.

Welcome Richard:

I have the 2551 (same layout as the 3100 in the rear) and truly like the bed layout and like everyone else has stated have had no issues with the toilet.  With that said if your wife just does  not like the thought of the bed orientation I would ask Stuart if you could not have them flip the shirt wardrobes to the rear and put the headboards towards the front of the coach.  i see no reason why this could not be done...... atleast worth asking.  Best of luck and you will not be let down with PCUSA.

When I was a to younger every Saturday and Sunday morning my head was always in the toilet, I did have a slight drinking problem, so it really doesn't bother me.

Hi Richard,

We have the 2551 and it is not a problem for us, no odors, privacy not an issue since we have been married 46 years.  Nice to be close since I get up a few times at night.  The RV is 2 years old and we have stayed in it about 6 months so far, still love the layout.

However, there was one time last summer when we took the grandkids out for a short trip, my 10 year old grandson used the bathroom in the middle of the night and it woke me up from a sound sleep with quite a shock.  I forgot how much pee volume and force a ten year old can produce.  We don't have the grandkids often and it only happened one time so far.  Wish I could pee like that!

Welcome to you and your wife,
Bob

Welcome RichardP,

If you like the floorplan, you should really like the over-all rig.  PCs are well made, better than the typical "C".  If you decide to special order a particular model, be sure to ask others on this forum having the same model, what they wished they had done differently.  PC-USA will make modest deviations from what is considered "standard" without gouging the buyer.  Radical changes might get costly, or simply cannot be done.

Someone mentioned reversing the position of your heads.  That might cost you nothing at all.  PC-USA is a great company to work with.  They aim to please without pick-pocketing you.

My thanks to all who responded.  Your suggestions are great.  My wife, BJ (stands for Betty Jean...but we won't go there), is a bit closer to putting her concern aside.  We will keep reading and looking.  I hope to be a PC owner before too long.
