Title: Back Up Camera
Post by: lmichael on October 10, 2011, 08:08:51 pm
On a recent 4,000 + trip, my back up camera monitor kept going to the blue screen at various times for no apparent reason.  Most times the picture would come back on, but sometimes it wouldn't come back until I turned the ignition off and started again.  Since the monitor goes blue, I would suspect the problem is with the camera.  I'm not a fan of Sony, and have noticed an increasing dissatisfaction with their products over the past few years.  So long as the camera keeps coming back on, I'll keep what I have.  The one I had on a 2007 PC was much better and had sound.  Some day I'll upgrade to a better system, but (again) don't sweat the small things--and this is a small thing.

It sounds to me that you have a problem with a connection .
I had to replace our camera because of water intrusion. I found  that there are at least two connections to the camera. One is at the grab handle. You can remove the handle and the plastic cover, to find one plug there. The second connection is about 12" to 18" from the camera. You can remove the grommet, carefully cut the caulking around the grommet so not to damage the paint. Pull the wire out to check that connection.

Thanks, I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Sounds very similar to what happened with our camera.  Kermit & co replaced the camera when we visited this past summer and it never happened again.

Follow-up post on my camera problem.  I pulled the cable from the camera up to the first connection, disconneted/connected it and tightly taped it.  After 3 trips, the problem has not happened again.  Thanks for the suggestions.

Piqued tape works well. Just a thought.       2o2
