Title: Local Channels on Direct TV with Riadtrip Antenna
Post by: custerhank on May 08, 2023, 10:17:08 pm
We got local channels in Phoenix last month. We relocated to Fort Wayne IN and no success. Finally a savvy U.S. based CS person said Ft Wayne locals originate as HD which the Roadtrip cannot process. Is there any Roadtrip antenna that is HD capable or are they just too small? I could have replaced it with a Winegard Traveler in AZ but did not have time and cost was $2850.

Hank,

I have Dish, not Direct so my experience with the Roadtrip is different than yours, but I don't subscribe to locals on Dish, I just use the crank up antenna for locals when I am on the road.   Works fine for me.

I've used to use Direct TV.  Your problem is your programing package, not your antenna. You can only get local programing from the area that you are registered into and then it is unpredictable as to what direct TV allows you to listen receive.

I now stream all my TV or use the antenna with the booster on all PCs for local programing. With a Samsung TV you get 250 free stations plus I subscribe to various streaming services for dual home and RV use. And the Samsung TV automatically programs all the local and streaming stations. It is much simpler than dealing with the satellite hookup system.  And at some private parks there is cable.

Thanks for streaming info. For now we will stay "old school" with DTV since we have become used to it for 29 years in several rv's and at home. But certainly willing to go more modern if DTV does not advance it's business model.

I was told today by a Winegard rep that DTV has been working on going to  HD on 101 satellite since last year and is running test channels now. So our HD Road Trip units might get finally fully useful soon.

She also said getting locals simply depends on whether I cannot see the 103 or 99 satellite, not how the signal is transmitted (contrary to what a DTV person told me last week). Yikes.
