Title: Replacing Air Conditioner
Post by: jg1199 on September 19, 2022, 11:13:52 am
2018 2552 w/ Dometic A/C

Our a/c keeps blowing the breaker. I watch the amps steadily go up after start up. After about 5 to 10 minutes the breaker trips. Sooo I am going to replace the whole unit with the quieter RecPro 15,000 unit. DYI of course lol

If you have replaced your a/c dyi any suggests or advice?

Thanks much. John

Not sure which unit you have in mind, at least a couple of us have installed the RecPro/Houghton 3400 which is 13.5K.  It is much quieter and more energy efficient  Fits in the standard 14" x 14" opening with a better flange and mount than the OEM unit.

Wiring is easy enough.  Those units have a remote and no external wiring to the stock thermostat system; it has its own built into the ceiling section..  So you basically abandon those stock thermostat wires and put in a two wire thermostat (to replace the stock unit} with new wires run down to the furnace.

The most difficult part may be getting the 100lb unit up onto the roof.
