Title: 4 way water distribution panel question
Post by: RollinInn on March 20, 2022, 07:57:58 pm
I have a new to me 2016 PC 2350S (manufactured in 2015). For those of you with a 2015 or newer PC, can you tell me what the Winterization & Normal settings mean on the water distribution panel?  On the 2015 brochure it's noted a *NEW* feature.

There are 4 settings: City Water, Tank Fill, Winterize, Normal.   The 1st 2 are obvious to me. Those have been on all my RV's for the past 20 years so I know what they are/do.

I can't find any literature, either in my portfolio of manuals nor online what those other 2 settings do.  I can "guess" at what Winterization means, but have no clue what Normal means or what it does.

Thanks for your help.

Just watch this video and you'll get a great explanation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNi5rPBQYxU on winterization

Normal for when you are using the water tank and running the pump.

No personal experience with them, but they did have issues. There are several threads discussing the various issues, I would HOPE they have it worked out by now.

They have gone to the 3 way valve now.    Center position is the normal position for either city water or water from the fresh water tank and pump.  Full left is suction (winterize) and full right is tank fill.

The new valve is all brass and I have had zero problems with it.  Anderson Brass makes a kit to replace the 4 way valve with the 3 way.  I used that to replace my original 4 way.

tymote for the info and for the links to past posts. For some reason, how I was using the Search criteria was not bringing up those threads.

Sounds like my first trip may be to Elkhart to get the the 4 way replaced with the 3 way. I'm NOT mechanically inclined so there's no way I would attempt to replace the panel myself.

I guess I won't know for sure until I hook up to city water and see if my fresh tank fills up.

I actually lucked out (I think).  I brought it home yesterday, low & behold it did NOT have the "NEW" 4-way diverter that was described in the brochure.  That's what prompted this thread.

So mine must've been one of the last one's built in 2015 without that flawed feature.  I'm relieved I won't have to worry about my fresh tank filling when on city water.

Hello RollinInn
Not to rain on your parade, I have a 2017 2552 that I had to change the valve as my water tank was over filling. Since then no problems..

Lance, was yours the 4-way or 3-way?

On my 2019 2552 the 3-way valve leaks and fills the fresh water tank and has overflowed onto the floor, so now when hooked up to city water I open the drain valve so it doesn't happen again until I get a new valve to install. I called PC and was told the valve needs to be in a precise place not to leak, my feeling is if the water pressure is below 45 psi the valve does not seat properly.

Hello RollinInn
I changed the old RV Water Service Panel out for the MANRV 101RF from ABCO,  https://www.abcorv.com/product-page/manrv101-rf . The new valve I actually picked up from Carol a couple years ago at PC. The best part of this valve is you don't have to mess with it, unless your filling the tank or winterizing. The old valve you had to change between city water and the water pump. So that slows down the number of times you have to shift positions and reduces wear on the internals of the valve.  The old valve had a plastic body and the new is brass. So far its worked out great, no issues.

With the 3 way valve in the middle position, there is a good chance the over filling of the fresh water tank is due not to the valve itself, but rather to the back flow prevention valve on the output of the water pump itself.

With the 3 way valve, it acts identical to a standard typical city water input on many RV's.  The "city water" inlet is plumbed into the cold water line AFTER the water pump itself.  There are 2 back flow prevention values in that system.  One on where you hook the city water up.  That valve prevents water being pumped out the city water connection when it's disconnected and you are using the RV's water pump to provide pressure.  The other back flow prevention valve is built into the water pump itself, so when you are hooked up to city water, the pressure from the city water hookup doesn't overflow the fresh water tank.

The 3 way valve in the center position is exactly the same plumbing.  Unless there is a problem in the valve itself.  And that is highly unlikely (but not impossible) due to the new valve being all brass.

Check the water pump itself.

EngineerIt-

My valve looks exactly like yours & the tag on it reads "Anderson Brass Company".  So does the plastic surround insert.   Maybe the prior owner already changed it out?

Yep you have the newest version, that's good news for you... Hopefully it will work and not give you any issues.
