Title: Fire Suppression System?
Post by: custerhank on February 20, 2022, 07:51:55 pm
Just wondering if anyone has installed a fire suppression system on their PC - or thinks one is necessary. On our previous diesel pusher I had a system installed in the engine bay because, historically, that is where many fires start in big rigs.  I am now seeing ads for Proteng, especially in FMCA magazine, small, almost tubular, devices that can be placed in different locations including the frig area. There is a lengthy article in the February FMCA magazine. The product appears to be aimed primarily at the diesel pusher market.

The only sales drawback is you have to go to a National Indoor RV Center of which there are only five in Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Nashville and Phoenix. Which does not work that well for those of us who live in the northern tier.

Similar to the proteng, this is one for corvettes. Would certainly work, and you could self install. We used to install a similar one in the top of VW bus engine bays.

I have another that has a tank, but uses the same 'melting hose' activation method. Its at my shop, the brand/model name escapes me at the moment.

Thanks for info. Ironically we lost our VW bus to an engine fire many years ago in Maryland. Perhaps one of these units would have saved it.

Volkemon,  That is quite a creative fire extinguisher.  Thanks for sharing that.  That would be ideal in some highly modified performance cars.

This style is for  'daily drivers'.  Think of them as a 'balloon' filled with protection.  GREAT solution for our campers.

Performance and racing systems are more complex, one or more manual deployment options usually are rule mandated.  And more $$$.   (exactly)
