Title: smoke detector
Post by: billy on April 18, 2011, 10:52:42 am
Our smoke detector keeps sounding of. There was one made with a "delay" built-in. One button to test and the other would turn it off for a few minutes, then reactivate it self. Any one using this or know where I might find one. OK Trudy, other then going to Lowe's and setting the place one fire  roflol to find one, any other ideas? I have moved the detector, open the kitchen window and turned on the ceiling fan with no luck?

any place that sells smoke detectors should sell one for the kitchen. We bought ours at Walmart for about $15. Has one test button and one silence button. It reactivates itself after about 10 minutes.

Billy

These are usually under warranty for five years.  We had one that did the same thing.  It turned out to be a defective unit.  I think it was a Kiddie and they sent us a replacement under warranty.  They just asked us for the info on the old one to verify it.

Well, I only ask cause I have never looked.  Are those smoke detectors  in the mh hard wired or battery only?

My father's new home has hard wired smoke detectors with battery backup.   One of his kept beeping and he did not know they were battery backup, he found out you have to change the battery.

My original one and the one I used to replace the original one are both battery operated. The original one was mounted on the ceiling near the kitchen and every time my wife cooked on the stove it would beep. So I went the wally world and bought a kitchen model that allows us to silence it for ten minutes by pushing a button. It does not seem to go off as often as the old one, maybe because it is a kitchen model. I took down the original one and placed the new one in the same spot.
