Title: Sani Con Hose Leak
Post by: jg1199 on June 18, 2021, 10:43:06 am
My Sani Con Hose has developed a leak. Thank God for Rescue Tape! Now I'm trying to find a replacement. Any advice? PC parts takes forever to call back or just doesn't. I ordered one from Amazon but it was the 1 inch not the 1 1/2 one. I might try using the smaller one with reducers from 1 1/2 to 1. Any thoughts?

I developed a leak in the Sanicon hose shortly after taking delivery of the new Phoenix.  The hole developed because of the way it was originally installed.  I also used the Silicone Rescue Tape hoping it would last until I got the replacement.  Phoenix provided me a replacement.  The hose is the larger Turbo Macerator model.  Knock on wood the Rescue tape is still working 4 years later and no leaks so I still have the replacement hose as a spare.

I would recommend staying with the larger hose as it will handle twice the flow at the same pressure drop thus significantly faster dumping.

I would think Phoenix may have the hoses in stock.  I am not familiar with the current PC parts ordering process.  PC took care of me when I returned the MH for warranty work.

Our macerator hose developed a tiny pin hole leak years ago that I managed with a dab flexible adhesive that I believe is still holding up well.  I forget the brand of adhesive.  The pin hole is near the pass-thru to the macerator so my thought is that if or when the adhesive fails, simply cut off the hose at the leak, reattach, and live with a slightly smaller hose.  The hose has been plenty long...maybe too long, so shortening it a little is of no concern in my case.

Phoenix just called and is looking for a replacement. My leack is a split so I need to replace. If I can find the larger one than I will replace with that. I'm having no luck online.
Update: Phoenix said if they could get one their cost would be $350+. So I guess I'm going to try and modify the 1 1/2 inch outlet to fit 1 inch hose with reducers. We'll see...

This company lists the hose 97521 for the Turbo Macerator.  https://www.adventurerv.net/hose-clamp-and-coupler-for-sanicon-turbo-p-41013.html (https://www.adventurerv.net/hose-clamp-and-coupler-for-sanicon-turbo-p-41013.html)

I don’t know anything about this company so I can’t speak for its reliability, etc.  Perhaps someone on the Forum has ordered from them and can share their experiences.  I just found it by Googling the part number.

As I recall when PC replaced mine in 2017 the price was about $70 so the price above ($92) sounds reasonable given the current shortage of RV parts.

Thanks out of stock. I spent the last two days on the internet. Everyone is out of Stock. Going to try the 1 inch hose with reducers and see what happens. Rinsed grey tank filled with just water on first try LOL

We bought a Roadtrek 2010 Class B in 2006 and it was our first experience with a macerator pump.  They have a one inch hose and it was never a problem.   I think I have posted here before, in one emergency far from home when a hose failed we bought a one inch landscaping pond hose from Lowes for $20 and used it for five years and still carry one for a spare.   So , yes, it will be a lower discharge but yes, it will work.   That price they quoted you  seems astronomical and says a lot to me.

This is not as flexible and good as the proper hose, but in an emergency.......     Also, I didn't realize until I looked it up for this post they also carry an 1 1/2 product.  I would think it would be even less flexible than a one incher.

I actually don’t consider $92 really out of line. Nothing about motorhome or recreational vehicles in general that’s inexpensive.  Murphy law says I just jinxed myself.  😳

The original poster stated:

That is what I consider more than too high.  Did I read/interpret this incorrectly??

$350 doesn’t sound right. We got one from Phoenix cruiser for like 60 bucks if I remember right

A quick Google search for "97521 hose" shows the Thetford 97521 hose supposedly available at many online RV stores.

Thanks so much to everyone. I finally found one. Hopefully it will arrive before we have to move on. The Rescue Tape is still holding🤞

Thanks again!

The $350 quote sounds more like a replacement macerator system?

Update: the hose I ordered is now on backorder. Any suggestions on who might have one?

Dave at Phoenix said that was just for the hose. He thought it was outrageous

I have a 2007 2551 that I am reconditioning. I had leaks in the valves of both the gray and black water. I fixed them both by replacing the gaskets and adjusting the electric valve screws.

That process gave me a chance to understand the Sani Con macerator system and I hope improve on what I have. In that process I replaced some hoses and found that Menards had exactly what I needed. I used clear plastic and spa hoses that both had the correct ID to fit the Sani Con system. And I also found that the Valterra SS01 RV Sewer Solution Drainage Kit with 10' Hose and Accessories fits the Sani Con system that I have. (I'm not sure about the newer PCs). I'm not using the Valterra power jet or the quick disconnect but using the hose and elbow adapter still makes the Valterra replacement hose less expensive then purchasing the Sani Con hose replacement.

The 10' Valterra length is all I need for most situations. I'm using the old Sani Com hose as a backup or extension with a removable fitting between the Sani Con and Vanterra hoses.

I'm using a 3' Spa hose by connecting it to the last fitting from the macerator, adding another 90 elbow and running it into the PC hose storage box. With a fitting I'm connecting the Spa hose to the Valterra hose. I also used two 90 degree fittings from the macerator to inside the hose storage box. That eliminated the hose pinching the flow from the macerator because of the sharp bend required from the macerator to the hole into the hose storage area.

I tested everything and the macerator preformed flawlessly and with better pressure with the Valterra hose and modifications.

Nice alternative you came up with zolman.

We'll Phoenix came thru and sent me a hose. Just got it installed. Going to use it ALOT less. We fulltime so on a week or more stops going to use the cheaper 3" hose.  Thanks to everyone for your advice!   John
