Title: Original A/C Unit
Post by: Bangorbob on February 25, 2021, 02:46:57 pm
I thought I had the paperwork for the accessories/etc for our coach.  Guess what I am missing-yes the a/c brochure.  I believe my 2008 2350 came with a Dometic Penquin.  Does anyone know for sure?

Tx, Bob

My 2007 has a Dometic Penguin.  Since we have the full body paint, the a/c cover was painted to match.  The paint shop painted right over the a/c decals.  If your a/c unit cover is painted, just maybe if you examine it closely, you can read it like I can.

Ron,  I know you and I have basically the same.  You are correct as them painting over.  I am going to install the Easystart, therefore I needed the correct wiring diagram.

Thanks, Bob

If it looks like this, it's a Dometic Penguin (I or II doesn't matter)

That must be the "New Look".

Here is my painted 2007 model.

Oh, I found this picture of our unit inside.  It says it all.

The screws that hold the cover on are special with a shoulder.  Don't loose any.  Washing my rig a few years ago, I noticed one of the 4 screws was missing.  I bought a few through Camping World.

Just remember what I suggested about the Softstart/Easystart unit in that other post.  Mount it vertical or second best at an angle to prevent water from traveling down a wire and into the unit.  That video of the guy mounting it sideways with the wires not looped downward seems like he will later have trouble.

Thanks for the tip on placement of the Soft start.
The question of the day.  IF you have replaced your penquin A/C shroud-What shroud did you replace it with?
Please don't tell me to call the factory-already did.

My a/c cover is the original.

My brother's a/c cover got damaged in a hail storm.  It was an expensive item to replace.  The shop doing some general work on his rig took care of it for him.  I understand they ordered it directly from the a/c manufacture.

Camping World sells oem Dometic replacement shrouds. Get the Penguin low profile part. I bought one in 2016 for under $100.

I don't recall the brand of air con I had on my previous RV but I was able to buy a replacement cover off of Amazon.

Local Ford stealership bought me a new one when their trainee drove my Chinook into the bay and the door wasn’t all the way up.  Got it on Amazon.

Thanks for the replies/info.  I will be ordering an ICON Penguin Dometic Duo Therm Air Conditioner Shroud, Polar White from amazon probable today.  Going to leave it white vs painting it-I think.
