Title: rear view mirror re-attaching

I used the Permatex rear view mirror adhesive the last time the mirror fell from the windshield. It stayed in place for about 18 months, so I must not have done too bad a job then.

Has anyone found a better adhesive for this situation? Adhering metal to glass with freezing to blazing is a tough environment.

Post by: Ron Dittmer on September 11, 2020, 08:22:07 pm: The only method I know of are those one-time-use center mirror adhesion kits sold at auto centers for a few dollars. Make sure to first clean the surfaces with a new razor blade, then with a glass cleaner followed by the process outlined inside the kit.

It seems an opportune time to mount your back-up camera monitor in that position. I did and it's been great. I turn on the backup camera every time I start the engine. I mounted my ScanGauge-II on top of it.

I did already move my rear view camera monitor forward closer to the windshield to spare my head from its sharp corners, and I thought of not even replacing the mirror, since I have air-intake readings and compass bearing on my OBDLink MX+ scanner app (my mirror has OAT and heading) but I really like seeing in the mirror what the dogs and cat are doing in the back while I'm driving.

I get that!

I missed my rear view mirror for that very reason after doing my modification. I like to monitor movement inside while driving. I ended up clipping a vanity mirror on the sun visor. It's not as good, but good enough. It still beats hitting my head on the monitor when it was mounted in the factory installed position. Being that I use the backup camera when driving, it is also much easier to glance at when mounted to the windshield.
