Title: Wanting to buy a Phoenix Cruiser
Post by: KL1aplay on January 07, 2020, 11:34:14 am
I am on the hunt to buy a Phoenix Cruiser and be in the range of $30,000 or under. I am also open to any that might need work or TLC.
I know they are out there but unfortunately they have been gone by the time I find them. Willing to travel for the right deal.

Hi KL1aplay,

Where are you located?  Where is Frenchtown?

It is near Missoula, Montana. But like I said I would be willing to travel for the right deal.

Thanks HUTCH42. I missed out on the one for $25,900 while waiting to see if I was going to get the one I really wanted. Ended up missing out on both.....but I know the right one is out there for my Wife and I.

Have you narrowed your choice to a specific model and window of model years?

If I could just pick what I wanted it would be a 2552 full body paint... 2011 and newer. Unfortunately with my budget I am open to looking at all floor plans and then it will depend on the deal that can be negotiated. In my search I have seen some crazy $$$$ on some of these motor homes. I'm guessing they must be the I really don't want to sell it price.

There’s a low mileage 2003 2550 for sale by owner on the Reno Craigslist. If it’s been  well maintained don’t  be afraid of the age. The early model Phoenix Cruisers are slightly less luxurious, but the HVAC, electrical, fresh water, and waste water systems  are simpler and require less attention. The standard RV components supplied during that era  seem  to be more robust too, common things beyond the coach builders’ control.

Don't ever be afraid to make an offer.  Done with courtesy you will not offend someone. You never know their situation, especially if the listing is getting stale...they may have two coaches in the driveway.

I think I scored and finally found a Phoenix Cruiser to purchase. On 1/30/20 I am going to hopefully pick it up . I am so EXCITED.....I will keep you posted on how it goes and give you an update when I get it home. It does need a little work so I will be needing some advice.

A few yers ago I found mine on RVTrader and it was parked in a field.  I had had a few rvs so I knew why it hadn't sold yet.  I put in several thousand $$ along the way but it's sure worth it.  So good luck to you.  I drive by Frenchtown on my way to Missoula from WA so I'll wave next time I go by.  I lowballed my offer and it was accepted.  Yes, you don't know why one is selling and their circumstances and I didn't have a big budget.  Used is great.  Have fun.

I purchased my new to me Phoenix Cruiser and put 1200 miles on it to get it home. I ended up with a 2005 - 2900 w/46,000 miles and really happy with it so far.
Some of the options it looks like it has are:
-Hydraulic leveling jacks
-Power drivers seat
-Surround sound
-Back up camera (on the visor but haven't got it to work yet)
-Generator with 100 hours(Not able to get it to start)

Now the bad:
Previous owner backed it into the corner of a garage and damaged the passenger side rear corner. Side basement compartment is toast and part of the rear compartment. It also messed up the corner of the rear cap and the cabinets in the bedroom. Other than that it needs a good detail and some other minor things fixed as to be expected from a coach from 2005.

Does anyone have any experience with exterior panel repair that can give me some pointers?
I would post some pics but I need to figure out how to compress them first. Won't let me upload them.

I looked for 6 months to find my 2006 2551 Phoenix Cruiser. I was willing to travel long distance to get it. After 6 months I found mine only 70 miles from my house. It had 68,000 miles on it. It was well taken of and came with all service records. I got a great deal on it. I did replace all the graphics and had it detailed. Just be patient, the right one will come. I picked Phoenix Cruiser for the quality.  I considered other rv's, but the quality was just not there. Good luck on your search.

Looking at your one picture of the damage, I recommend seeing if you could arrange for the factory to fix it up.  I would not have confidence of relying on someone else to do the job right.  For one, Phoenix can replace the rear wall rather than fix it somehow.

But maybe your standards are lower than mine.

Wow Ron... that was a little snarky, especially for you... but maybe we cant all reach your standards. Or budget.  (WH)

@KL1aplay -I am making the assumption that you have some skills, and will be doing the job yourself? `By all means, if budget and time allows, drive it to the factory and get a quote. But the fact you bought it and are looking for help leads me to think you are gonna DIY.

Posting pictures here is lame, I followed Ron's lead and got a free Flickr account. Lets you link full size HD pics. AND all visitors can see the pics, unlike attaching them.  2o2

Looks like you have an adventure, but not an impossible journey. I am a pretty good fabricator, but far away. You on Facebook? HMU - my ID there is 'Volke Mon' and pic is a groundhog next to a blue flower.  Send me a message with a friend request.  Easy to post pics there, and I can give some advice. Its free, so full refund if not satisfied.  :lol

I got mine 'cheap' because it needed extensive repair around the windshield (Posted a gallery of the windshield repair on FB.), and had MUCH smaller right rear corner damage.   I hope you got a great deal on that one! Sometimes being a 'bottom feeder' and taking on jobs others wont is a GREAT money saver, and you can be assured that the repair is done right. Might even learn new skills!

Oh boy, I really didn't intend to come across like that....I was only trying to say it straight.  Phoenix can replace panels, especially the back wall, but maybe other things too.  Anyone else would likely "repair" instead of "replace".  That was the point I was trying to make.

I am so often misunderstood  :'(

I believe I did get a deal on this Phoenix Cruiser and am totally confident that I can do the repairs myself. The factory is to far away from me to even consider them to do the work and being on a budget it would not make sense. I believe the only part of this repair that I am going to need some help on is repairing the exterior siding panel. I did call the factory and they said I would be able to purchase a 4'x4' sheet for $90. I just need to make sure that is what I need. Thanks for the input guys and I will keep you posted on my repair.

Ah!  A serious Do-It-Yourselfer....another Volkemon.  That is awesome.  Please post pictures and details along the way.  This inquiring mind wants to know.  Though I don't need to repair our PC, I am very curious how you go about doing it.

Apologies to you, i could have been a little more diplomatic...  :-[ we all have moments.

I understand you dont use FB, but maybe you can still see things there. ( Think I have been here before, but dont remember results...)  Kurt is making an album to document the repair. This is my windshield repair one, https://www.facebook.com/volke.mon/media_set?set=a.943868619149682&type=3 (https://www.facebook.com/volke.mon/media_set?set=a.943868619149682&type=3), see if that works even without you being a 'member'. If it nags you, decline to join and it may pass you through to see anyway. Once the repair pictures album for KL1aplay is up I will post a link if he doesnt do it first.  2o2

Hey Volkemon, I do have a FB account and can see your rust repairs.  I use FB exclusively to stay connected with our extended family spread around the USA.  There was a time I connected with everyone I know which was over whelming.  To be honest, it is still too much with just my family.
