The calendar says that it’s  time to start making plans for next spring and summer. The annual rush for campground reservations at recreation.gov begins in another week or so.

No winterizing down here at sea level, but the early snow up on the burned hillsides and Los Padres National Forest sure is beautiful. Golden hills, now veiled in gray, summer leaves have blown away.

Cal cruiser, it’s so cal, perfect for RVing all  I just spent several days at flying flags rv resort in Buellton. ( just north of Solvang) its Ca so expect to pay twice as much or more for a fraction of what you get elsewhere but at least you have options. We’re heading out the end of Dec for Fairhope Alabama , gulf shore. Temps are much like the Coachella valley this time of year.

Cal, also if you've never been, Death Valley is awesome in the winter. One of the hottest places on earth in the summer but incredible in the winter. Around march if we had rain the natural wildflowers fields are a must see. Awesome hikes however some of the roads going to the trail heads require a vehicle with good ground clearance. 4X4 isn't needed but ground clearance is a plus. Also the star gazing in Death Valley is second to none with no light pollution.

Thanks. If the rain keeps falling that should be spectacular in March. Haven’t done that before-
do you camp at Furnace Creek? I have a special edition California’s Gold AAA map featuring every amazing place  that  the late Huell Howser visited  2o2  But we are getting tired of Gavin the Nuisance too, and Alabama sounds kind of interesting.

We’re going  to Zion in early May, somehow  lucked into a riverfront site at Watchman. If you are passing thru Vegas the  Oasis RV Resort  has an awesome pool area to relax and a decent breakfast, and they offer a seasonal good neighbor  rate for CA residents during the spring months.

We’ll be heading back to Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe then on  to Mammoth Mountain RV Park next summer,  both will be booked solid by February. Felton is another favorite of ours, staying at Cotillion Gardens and  hiking into the Henry J Cowell Redwoods and Roaring Camp , and taking the beach train down to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk when it’s running in summer.

If you enjoy Pismo Beach and renting an ATV or dune buggy on the beach at Oceano Dunes get out there before the CCC shuts it all down. Sad to say it looks like the writing is on the wall. We play it  safe in the dunes by only riding while school is in session and never on a weekend, so  next spring and fall  could be last call for the Oceano  Dunes SRV.
