Title: Convertible couch release Mech. Broken
Post by: romstead on September 27, 2019, 03:40:47 pm
Has anyone had problems with the release cable and mechism that pulls the pin on the Foot Rail of the convertible couch ?. The  Tip of the “S” shape swedge broke off and the mechism that pulls the pin on the rail has a really weak spring and does not have enough spring engery to return the pin to the keeper hole on the rail. Can you re-tension the spring if so how? Any ideas how to re- swedge or press fit on the “S shaped keeper see pictures   I have include one of the “S” shaped pressed on “swedge” that is attached to the end of cable that is not broken and one that had the tip of the “S” broken for comparison

Call Paul's Upholstery (or maybe it's Paul's Seating) in Elkhart.  They should be able to provide the part(s) you need.

You might actually get better service working through Phoenix.

This is a lousy design. Our cables chaffed through very quickly. PC will sell you new cables, the spring situation needs to be addressed also, not enough spring and too much black spray paint. We made some modifications, things work better than original. I would take a hard look at building a better system, this is not complicated engineering, and if this is what we get from American made..... please someone introduce more Asian influence. Of course if your screen door latch hasn't broke yet it will, door latches and 120v outlets will come soon. Make a list and save on shipping.

Our cable or "s" thingie broke somewhat recently and Doug at Phoenix fixed it when we were there. He told me he'd show me how to avoid that but I forgot to ask when we picked up the rig. If anyone is at the factory and remembers to ask the question, post the answer so we can try to avoid breaking it again.
