Title: Sanicon Question
Post by: Sarz272000 on July 29, 2019, 05:46:34 pm
If camped at a full service resort with sewer, what has to be done or device used to leave Sanicon connected to the septic dump without causing odors to emulate?

Thanks

You have two basic choices at a full-hookup campsite with a sewer.

1) Attach your sanicon to the camp ground waste pipe.  It screws on threaded campground pipes.
This method requires you to run the macerator to empty the black tank as needed.  The gray tank will drain on it's own as long as it's waste valve is left open.  I personally like to keep both tank valves closed until ready to empty.  I pump out the black tank first, then back-wash the gray into the black tank to flush it, then pump it out.

2) Use a stinky slinky to "gravity drain" as sewage is created.
With this method, there are two potentials for sewer gas getting inside your rig.
1) When flushing the toilet, a burst of sewer gas may come out.
2) The roof-top vent pipe vents the gas, some of it may get in through an open roof vent or window.
The kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and shower drain all have traps to prevent sewer gas from getting inside, so no worries there.

I mounted under our PC, a stinky slinky storage tube with Rhino waste tube inside.  I carry one as a back-up for if the sanicon fails during a trip.  The tube and slinky are out of sight mounted high, and are light weight.

Odors cannot/will not "emulate" into the motorhome from the sewer dump.  If there are any odors, they are coming from your tanks.  I leave my gray open all the time when hooked up.  It does not completely drain.  I will close the gray valve the night before leaving the next day.

Screw the sanicon nozzle into the campsite's sewer inlet.  You may leave the gray water valve open so you don't have to worry about washing dishes, showering, etc filling up the gray tank.  Do *not* leave the black water valve open!  First, solids will not "soften and dissolve" in the tank, they will plop to the bottom of the tank and build up and harden!   There is no "flush" in an RV toilet.. Just a quick "rinse".

Allow the black tank to fill about 2/3rds, then open the black valve, turn on the scanicon and empty normally.

I try to always hook up a separate fresh water line to the tank flush inlet and open the black tank flush valve to "wash" the black tank out each time.

Thanks for the comments.  I didn’t realize the sanicon screwed into the campsites sewer inlet. WOW that is nice!  Really like using the sanicon.  So easy and less messy, if you know what I mean! I do carry an extra slinky hose in case it fails.

That is an excellent idea.  Never thought to do that. Thanks.

Plan on going for the first time to a full service resort in the next month or so and these tips will come in handy!

Our 2013 does not drain through - not even the grey. It's possible they RV shop put the wrong one in when they did a warranty replacement on ours. If we use the macerator house, we have to run the macerator.

There is a risk of fumes outside if you have a pass-through macerator or stay connected with the three inch drain hose. Once you are all hooked up you've created a chimney through which the gasses from the RV Park can pass. If the septic at the campground has stagnant gas it can travel up your drain pipe, through your tank and out your roof vent. If you notice you are stinky around the rig, that may be what's happening.

If your macerator system is nice and clean, you should see a very slow drain of gray water.  I can understand if yours is not draining.  Your system may not be clean enough for slow-drain action.  It doesn't take much to plug it up for slow drain.  If that is your case, just close both tank valves, let the tanks fill, and use the system as intended.  I find that works best anyway, providing me with a tank full of gray water to flush the black tank with.
