Title: New Owner (maybe)
Post by: billy on January 25, 2011, 04:52:25 pm
Well I guess we will be part of your happy little clan! Tentatively we have a deal with Phoenix on the (Drum Roll) 3100. You said it Ron, Happy Wife = Happy Life.  We were between the 2552 and 3100. Sharon wanted a dinette & sofa. In our first trailer and this motor home we have a dinette & sofa. The 3100 will fit in all except 6 site at our park at Pismo Beach, where as this rig was limited to only about half the sites. So if y’all are interested I’ll keep you posted. billy

PS I called Stuart, he was busy and he will call back. If the camera can not be in dash, I'll keep the Tom-Tom

Congrats Bill and Sharon,

Is the 3100 available or are you ordering one?

We really enjoyed meeting you both and sharing our PC experience with you.  We moved to Quartzsite today and are near the big tent where I believe you are located; if you look around, you may see us.  Plan to be here a couple more days, there are a lot of vendors we haven't seen yet and we don't want to leave without something more that we don't really need.

Bob

It was already built     http://www.phoenixusarv.com/displayItem.php?id=10274  There are a few things I asked to remove and credit for, Tom-Tom and rear TV. Stuart will give me credit for both but leave rear TV, said it was too much work for the same price. Replace all that wood and stuff. Only other thing is he will add levelers, gave us a pretty fair trade, considering it’s a trade, sight un-seen. It is in great condition with less then 9k miles. I take good care of our equipment, been a mechanic to long! Bob, we were to leave Wednesday but will hang around couple of day to finalize things with Phoenix. billy

Congratulations Billy!

That is a very nice model.  Very roomy inside with such a long slide out for both the dinette and couch.  At only 5.5 feet shorter than your class-A, it is not a world of a difference, but I understand it fit's in more places which was your main goal.  You'll have to keep us updated after you take possesion.

Given the Tom Tom had the backup camera in it, did you get any other kind of backup camera?  If so, will it get mounted in dash or elsewhere?  In dash seems ideal.  I often hit my head on our hanging one.

Looking through the pics, they point out missing trim over the slide, and missing flip-up table behind the passenger seat.  Be sure they are addressed now.

I agree with Ron that the rear view camera is a must have item.

Mine does not have the ability for the person out back to talk to the driver. They told me the new Sony cameras do not have a mic. Like Ron I would prefer the monitor to be in the dash instead of over the windshield. It is just plain in the way to many times, like when working the curtains. I keep banging my head on it. >(  Sometimes you can not teach an old dog new tricks.

You might want to consider keeping the Tom Tom just for the radio and the backup monitor, even if you don't use the GPS or use a different GPS.

Good point guys, I'll call Stuart and see where they plan on the back-up camera He said he would leave the TV but give me credit as far as Tom-Tom he was to take it out and have the back-up? Yes it is a little longer then I thought, but what the heck, it will get me in most all the place we go. I'll keep you informed, billy

Billy,
On our 2350 we had the back-up camera on the overhead and after hitting our head on it, and having look up to see it we decided to go with the in-dash Tom Tom on our new 2552.  After trying to operate it we find it confusing and instructions very vague as was noted with other PC owners.  If we had it to do over we would probably go with the Ford radio and then have an aftermarket radio/GPS/back-up camera system installed after delivery.  That may be why PC stopped using the in-dash system, at least that is what I was told.  There are several very good systems available for comparable price.  For now I will just take my Garmin along for the GPS and use the Tom Tom for back-up camera and radio.  I tried to send this once and it disappeared, hopefully this will go.

About hitting my head on the backup moniter........

I see it there and wonder why.  It appears to be well out of the way, but I still hit my head on it.  roflol

Well, I'll tell you, Ron, I don't ever hit my head on my rear view monitor and I use it all the time to watch the toad and it gives great wide angle views of the road.  However, EVERY TIME I flip the sun visor down or up I hit it with the visor and then have to reach up and adjust it again.  I can see where a dash mounted one would be better in some ways, but it would sure be easier to change out the monitor out in the open rather than in the dash.  Sometimes you just can't win!

There is no Yutopia with the hanging back up camera monitor, but I still wouldn't do without it.  It's my buddy. hithere

Has anyone moved the back-up monitor forward in the Ford?  I moved the monitor forward in our sprinter. I would think the monitor could redplace one of the courtesy lights in the Ford.

We ate at Meter Creator RV Park, visited Meter Creator, what a hole in the ground. 4000 feet across and took less the 10 seconds to form it. If any one is interested to see some pictures of Quartzsite, a town of 4000 people then grows to 300,000 to 400,000 people click here. http://web.me.com/wd6afc/Simple_Pleasures/Simple__Pleasures/Entries/2011/1/13_Quartzsite_2011.html You don't need to look thru my web site . billy

On our PC2400 we removed the rear view mirror then modified a Garmin suction mount to fit the back up monitor.   It is now mounted center near the top of the windshield.

Our 3100 arrived today at  about 8:30 this  morning.heartshower heartshower heartshower. We had everything packed, it only took us 2 hours to transfer everything. We are now watching the super bowl and finally  (almost) got everything put away. I would not say we were carrying to much, BUT our Honda has room for two more things, my wife and me. We are tired and happy. C y'all, billy

Yes, Congrats Billy!

You'll have to share with us how your new 3100 is handling for you.  I am sure you have been reading about the suspension upgrading many of us have been doing on our E350/E450's.  Of coarse it all starts with a fully loaded rig (water, gear, fuel, etc.) at a Ford shop for your free alignment, and also proper tire pressure.

That is great! I know you are going to love your PC! Better a little late than never.

Our new 2551 is supposed to be here in Florida either the 17th or 18th. Hope it's on time. We are getting antsy. We ordered it on Dec. 1.

Don't forget to change your profile on the forum.

Who delivered your rig?

Welcome,Billy
we really enjoy our 3100 which we picked up last fall & ttok off on a 5000 m cruise to the southeast.  now that i remember my login info i'll try to enter some pics.  our's is not exactly stock as we don't view a sofa nor full dinette favorably.

i use the sony rear camera as the rearview mirror as the monitor hangs sort of over the mirror.  and, yes i(we)  keep hitting the monitor with the visor ,so,...i don't change my visor too often.

i've not had any problems driving on rough roads or cross winds.  actually, we find the phoenix rides better than our coach house did.

again, enjoy your phoenix
