Title: Seat flaking
Post by: banshee74 on February 26, 2019, 10:33:45 am
Has anyone found some treatment that in part mitigates the flaking of the driver and passenger seat, along with the jackknife sofa in units of the 09/10 vintage?

Search around the forum, it has come up before. Unfortunately, replacement seems to be the only recourse. Or duct tape.  :beg

Hi banshee74,

There is poll on the damage you describe.  CLICK HERE (https://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php?topic=2680.0) to input your PC.

As Volkemon said, unfortunately the only repair is replacing the seat skins.  The problem was introduced when RV seat manufactures were supplied inferior vinyl material from China instead of the USA.  What's crazy is that the problem continues.  It is the fault of the USA suppliers of the material, not the seat manufactures.  The solution is to completely avoid vinyl material.  Replacing the skins with "top grain/full grain" or suede leather versions is the only guarantee you avoid a reoccurring problem.  Stay away from bonded leather for it is worse than China-made vinyl.

Phoenix USA switched from vinyl to the good leather to completely avoid the problem.  But that does not help owners of older PCs with messed up vinyl.

FWIW:  Our 2007 has the older Made-In-USA vinyl and it's holding up perfectly, 12 years to-date.
