Looking for advice or,experience with the fan unit from RV Cooling Unit Warehouse, Model # SDL01. The one with 3 fans, mounts on cooling fins in box, hard wires thru drain tube. $72.95 on Amazon.
Many thanks, Mike

I cannot provide any such advice or experience. But for the majority of PC owners that have their fridge in a slide-out, having such a thing might be a very good investment to improve ventilation. It seems the slide-out offers less "chimney effect" than when the fridge is not inside a slide-out which effects fridge performance during extremely hot temperatures.

I don't know about the unit you are investigating but we live in a really hot area and have never had problems keeping our refrig cold. We have a 2350 with slide. That being said, we came to the PC from the Class B world and our Roadtrek refrig would really struggle to cool down on very hot days sitting in the sun when parked. I installed a little 12 volt fan I bought at Radio Shack (remember??) that was designed to cool electronic gear. It really helped. I mounted it at the bottom of the fins and just directed the air upward. That refrig was three way (110v, LP, 12v dc) and I just wired it into the 12v coming into the refrig on the back. Worked great.

Ron, All the models with refer in the slide-out have fans built in.
The models that vent through roof, do not have fans but as Doneworking says, can benefit by a small inexpensive fan. My old 2551 would not work well without an extra fan.

Interesting!
So, for us with roof-top ventilation, it wouldn't be a bad idea if camping in extreme heat, to have a small 12V fan to pass more air upward through the cooling fins behind the fridge. I will have to keep that in-mind. It surely makes sense to have one to turn on for such conditions.
Thanks!

This post has created a few more questions for me. Sailor's request is for information on a fan unit that mounts on the inside of the refer. Unless I'm mistaken, I have read about fan units mounted on the backside. Can someone shed some more light on the subject?

There is a product that attaches to the fins inside the fridge. I am looking for the link, but cant find it. In the meantime. here is a thread from a class B forum that I bookmarked . Kinda interesting.

The problem is not inside the refer it is the fins in the back that need the air circulation to cool better.

A fan like that only keeps the inside the refrigerator temp uniform. That's especially true if like most RVers, you tend to overpack the refrigerator because there's not a lot of room in it.
While it *may* help keep frost off the fins, that's unlikely since frost is due mainly to humidity inside the refrigerator and not due to air movement.

Keelhauler, I am very aware of that. I think the OP was asking about a contraption that attached to the inside fins and I have read articles on such. On occasion, I use the small battery operated, squirrel cage fan inside the fridge to circulate air. Not sure if it makes a difference. Been so long since I had an absorption fridge, I'm gun shy.
Cheers...
