Title: Phoenix Cruiser Interior Colors vs. Ford E-350 & E-450 Cab Interior Colors
Post by: jam4travel on July 31, 2018, 02:14:09 pm
Do any other Phoenix Cruiser Owners find it odd that Phoenix Cruiser orders all their Ford Fleet Cutaway Chassis with interior color of Medium Pebble (a tan color).  The Medium Pebble interior cab color is find for customers that order an interior coach color of either Toast or Desert Sand-the colors will match.  What about customers who order an interior coach color of Nightscape or Graystone, the cab interior color will not match the coach's interior color.  Ford Fleet Cutaway Chassis can be ordered with a Medium Flint (a grey color) interior cab color.  The Medium Flint interior cab color would match much better with the interior coach colors of Nightscape or Graystone.  In my opinion Phoenix Cruiser owners with either a Nightscape or Graystone coach interior color scheme are being short changed.

My antique 2350 has a grey cab, and the rest of the interior is beige. (I do not know the proper artisan name for my interior color scheme)

I prefer the 'cockpit' of the camper to be visually separate from the coach area, so when doing my re-flooring (https://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php?topic=3016.0)  I matched the cab flooring to the cab trim. If only the seats were grey, it would be perfect.

For me, it would not be desirable to have the same color in the cockpit and coach. But I am a weirdo.  (exactly)

The Ford E350 and E450 cab & chassis version specifically for motorhomes came in the dark gray color through 2006.  We have a 2007 E350 and it has a medium tan color that was used for only two years that I know of, 2007 and 2008.  Starting in 2009, the dash board was redesigned and the shade of tan got lighter along with it.

I don't think RV companies have a choice of color interiors for the E350/E450 cab & chassis outfitted for the motorhome industry.

Ron,

I believe the Ford E-350 & 450 cutaway chassis can be ordered with either medium pebble or medium flint.  See the attached 2018 pdf file.

What you have there is not the specs for motorhome chassis.  I think that data is not available to us the general public.

The motorhome chassis has the following unique features....as I recall.  I am sure my list is incomplete.
- fancy front chrome grille work and headlights like an E150 family van.
- no rear wall (just a plastic weather barrier)
- no seats (just a cheap disposable seat for lot-driving only)
- two antennas (a shorter one to use when a large bed over-hang is in the way of the normal antenna)
- no outside mirrors
- power windows & door locks, a/c, etc.
- a higher-output alternator
- a bare steel floor (no carpet, no rubber pad, nothing)
- maybe rubber isolator pucks and "I" beams to build a house on.

options I recall are...
- radio
- finishing panels for the dash board
- keyless entry
- spare tire

Because a motorhome chassis is incomplete, unsafe to drive on a street, the general public is not allowed to buy it direct from Ford, hence nothing is posted for us to read.

In the PDF jam4travel  provides, there is a listing for "Motorhome Prep Package (47M)"   as an option.

I found a 2013 listing for that feature  :

So maybe all colors are available!   heartshower

The medium pebble (tan) looks just fine with our nightscape interior. With the nightscape, the leather bucket seats are the same as the leather throughout the coach, so the only thing that is tan is the dash and the doors. It fits nicely, IMHO, and gives it a second color which compliments it. If everything was the dark gray, it would be too much. We went with the vinyl floor, for the same reason....too much wood. It breaks up all the wood (plus we didn't want to worry about water). The floor has grays (mostly) and tans in it, so it pulls everything together. I've also have black, gray and tan accents in the coach, So, we are really happy with the whole package inside. Our previous class A DP had mostly one color and it got to be too much.

I am not convinced the RV outfitter can choose which interior color.  I think tan is the one and only.  I hope I am wrong for the sake of you who would like a gray cab area.  That would be a great question to ask Phoenix USA.

For visual reference of yester-year, here is our PC gray seats with our 2007 Ford tan interior.  I think it's a better match than if we had the dark gray Ford cab interior.
I really like the lighter tan of more recent years.

The Ford dark gray interior would surely be a better match with our gray painted exterior, but our tan is not a clash.
Zoom in to see the interior through the windshield.
If given a choice back then, I wonder what our decision would have been.

Dave at Phoenix Cruiser told me they order all their chassis with the Medium Pebble cab interior color.  The Ford 2018 E-450 and I assume the E-350 as well can be ordered with the Medium Flint interior cab color.  I had Dave check out how much it would cost to switch out the Medium Pebble with the Medium Flint after the fact:  1) parts = $4,670.55, and 2) labor = $450.00 - OUCH!!!!!!  So I'm staying with the Medium Pebble cab interior color-not pleased.

I just spoke to Barry today and he said that my PC would have the grey cab seats to match the interior coach color.  I guess we'll see.

Peg,

Your coach will get grey seats, but the other cab interior trim will be Medium Pebble (tan).  See attached sample image.

:beg Those seats are beautiful. They would MAKE the cockpit of my camper look SO great... Bet they go for more $$ than I would imagine..   :'(

I may have to start 'haunting' salvage yards again and see what comes through.

If anyone wants to trade out a set of tan ones to match their dash.... Mine are very comfy and in excellent shape... and have NONE of the 'shedding' problem.

WOW!

The gray PC seats in jam4travel's picture are so much darker than the gray seats in our 2007.  Now I understand why some of you are asking about the gray Ford dash area interior color.  The PC interior matches the gray Ford interior just right.

I was surprised to read that Phoenix can order the Ford motorhome package chassis with either interior color.  I STAND CORRECTED.

Oh wow, that's weird!  Guess I'll live with it though.

Ron,

The image I posted shows cab seats with an interior color of "Nightscape", which is a very dark gray.  "Graystone" is also a gray tone interior color that P.C. offers which is a much lighter gray.  See attached images.

Ah! Thanks for the clarification jam4travel.  That lighter gray looks very similar to our 2007 gray called morning mist.  I feel that light gray compliments better with the Ford tan/pebble color than Ford's dark gray interior.

Our Nightscape 2551 has black seats and sofa.  I've thought that the tan and off-white wallpaper is a nice "blender" that brings  the cab colors  in to the coach interior with ease.
