I heard you shouldn't use your fresh water hose to flush the tanks using the flush system, Why?

I have a separate regular garden hose to flush the tanks. I have the standard white RV hose for my drinking water. I feel it is more sanitary.

Just in case of a backwash condition.

There is a check valve in the hose bib where you attach the hose to the flush out system to guard against any back flow, BUT.

During our walk through two weeks ago we were told the macerator/pump is positioned slightly above the floor of the tank. I verified this by running the black tank dry using the Sanicon. I then hooked up an old school 3 inch hose with a see thru elbow and dumped again using the electric and manual valve. There was clearly additional waste water in the black tank, so I suspect it's possible for sludge to build up in the black tank if not properly flushed. Besides flushing the tank I intend to occasionally use the old school hose.

Exactly...."But".
If that check valve gets stuck and the perfect storm is in play, you could find yourself in a hospital.

To each, their own. If you use a different hose, do you need a different faucet too?
I mean if waste can get in the hose, then can't it get in the faucet?
A little common sense goes a long way.
Make sure the two flush valves are closed. Hook up a hose to the flush inlet. Turn on the faucet. Dump the black tank, when the flow thru the macerator slows, open the appropriate flush valve. Run for a minute or so, turn off flush valve, turn off macerator, close dump valves. Do the same for the grey tank.
As long as you follow this procedure, you will NEVER get waste water in the supply hose.
Now, when I can, yes, I hook up an old hose to the flush connector, but don't hesitate to use the city water hose when the faucet is more than 10 feet away (the length of my old hose).

Yep! :lol For me, common sense would be that it would be much more likely that there was some 'schmutz' on the female fitting in the 'sewer center' that could be transferred to the potable water inlet if the same hose was used for both. A backfeed all the way to the faucet/spigot?...... I will take my chances.
This wisdom gained after the first time I used the flush in our used coach...and found the valve to the grey water tank is stuck open. And if you remove the PVC plug in the flush fitting, it leaks when there is water in the grey tank, so I am figuring the one-way is not working correctly.
Sure, if your coach is from this decade, and you know its whole history...use what you want for a hose. With our 2006, and unknown history... I will err on the side of reasonable caution. I would indeed use the drinking hose with the flush hose if the spigot was too far away, but I (and Mrs V, THE BOSS) feel MUCH more comfortable that the same hose end does not contact the flush fitting AND the potable water fitting.

Volkemon,
You and I and a handful of others are outdated in this PC world. A lot of forum members here are newer PC owners with rigs that have some sort of fancy do-it-all 4 or more position valve thing that you and I don't have. So they may be talking "apples" when you and I are thinking "oranges".
I do wonder if that valve also flushes the gray & black tank. To you with new rigs, is the flush connection a completely different hose connection, or a shared connection utilizing that 360 degree valve thing?

tymote Yeah, I did not consider that. Years in the air cooled VW world has me thinking of vehicles newer than 1980 as 'current' roflol

Ron, in my new 2552 the tank flush hose connection is a dedicated female hose coupling next to the electric tank valve dump switches in the sewage hose compartment. It has an internal check valve (as I discovered when mine was stuck shut), and is plumbed only to two quarter-turn valves and then to the tank flush connections. So no possibility of cross-contamination with the fresh water supply, unless the operator does it externally.
-
Ron, my 2014 has the 4 way water inlet valve which has nothing to do with the tank flushing, that is a separate hose connection next to the dump valve switches.

Thanks for the clarity folks! tymote
