Title: Fire extinguisher recall
Post by: RKS on November 02, 2017, 08:47:09 pm
As many may know Kidd, manufacturer of fire extinguishers, has initiated a recall of many of their models, as well as ones sold under other names. Checked the one in our unit and it is on the list.  The Kidd website has a link to a form for checking recalled models and submitting for a free replacement if you own a defective model. The list goes back for a number of years. Claim replacements should be received within a few weeks and will provide instructions for returning the old ones.

The unit in our PC was part of the recall.  I called Kidde and they are sending a replacement fire extinguisher.

I gathered our 3 fire extinguishers in house and PC, and called the phone number.  All 3 units were recalled.  They are dated 1985, 1988, and 2007.

Kidde will ask you
- trigger or button
- model number
- color of extinguisher (red or white)
- serial number  (ex: HV-123456)
- date code (10 digits stamped on the cylinder, not on the label)

My two oldest ones did not have the manufacturing date code stamped on the cylinder, but on the lower-left of the decal is the year and a number to the left of that.  Apparently that was equivalent.

2 of those are 30+ years old!   You're not supposed to use them past 12 years!

I think you are right about their shelf life.  Still they were included in the recall.  I was surprised of it.

That web site will allow up to five fire extinguishers to be replaced.

I didn't get an extinguisher in my 2014 2350. Was I supposed to or is this thread about owners installing their own?

If you bought a new PC, it should have come with a fire extinguisher.  Phoenix mounts it very close to the entry door.....you can't miss it.
