Title: Adding 12V outlets for powering and charging phones
Post by: Wilson on October 20, 2017, 10:25:03 pm
The wife and I use our phones a lot and wanted more convenient places to power and charge our phones. As I was converting my fluorescent light over to LED I added 12v sockets above the sofa and above the wife's bed. https://www.amazon.com/Electop-Cigarette-Lighter-Charger-Splitter/dp/B01HEV8LHG/ref=sr_1_29?ie=UTF8&qid=1508552918&sr=8-29&keywords=12volt+auto+splitter  I cut cords from this type of splitter.

Works great and hardly noticeable when not in use.  I just notched out the plastic on the light fixture to allow the cord to not be pinched when screwed in back in place.

This won't be of much value to you who have the current-day dash board with glove box, but it may be interesting to those with the previous dash board made through 2008.

I installed two 12V outlets in the center cup holder.  One is a standard 12V, the other is two USBs  They are wired to the high-power cigarette lighter via a 2-wire harness with an in-line connector to make it easy to remove the cup holder to service the engine.

This allowed our cell phone & GPS power cables to be connected away from the gear shift lever, and it also cleaned off the cup holder nicely.
