Last May we joined the Norcold Class Action Settlement that was posted on this forum by Gradygal. We received our first settlement check today and the notice said we will be receiving three more checks over the next three years for a total of $186.
So if you joined the Class Action look for your settlement and call 1-877-449-8550 if you don't receive it. The correspondence also states that we have a 3 year extended warranty against the cooling unit

What years does the law suit cover? Our PC is a 2007, but the fridge could be older yet if Phoenix buys in quantity and keeps a handsome stash on-hand.
-
Ron,
The manufacturer date to be included in the lawsuit was 1/1/2009 thru 12/31/2013. Also, all claims and exemptions had to be filed by 8/26/2016.

I also got a check for $45.78... saturday

We received the check as well. So in all less than 200 bucks, so of course under Murphy's law two weeks before we're supposed to depart on a 6-8 week trip the fridge leaks all of its ammonia.
The cost is over 2 grand to repair. Crapolla.
Sheesh, they want over 2 grand to repair and I find new two and three way units on line for a bit over a grand

Joseph... what are you saying then? Your serial # is one of those that are troubled?
-
No, I wish it was then I'd be covered. I received a check under the class action but my serial number doesn't fall under any recall. So my pc has 30,000 mikes it's a 2011 so not a lot of use and my fridge is shot. Its around 1200 for a new unit and install myself or 700 for a rebuilt cooler and have to attempt to tear it apart myself and repair. The shops want 1500 for a new cooling unit and 3 to 4 hundred for labor. They will not install a rebuilt I go out and purchase.
Not so sure I want to bother with rebuilt parts.

Hi Joseph,
What I am about to suggest will sound a bit odd. Call Phoenix and ask them if they would be kind enough to sell you a new fridge at cost. Maybe they could arrange to have one fridge delivered direct from the supplier to your door. It is surely worth the call to find out.

When I had slide trouble, I watched Phoenix take my fridge out and reinstall. I swear it only took 10 minutes each way and did not look that hard to do.
Also I'm sure if you bought a new fridge from Phoenix, they would install for you at a very reasonable price.

Keelhauler, I agree , from what I can tell it won't be that difficult. Now changing out the cooling unit itself in an attempt to repair my current fridge I'm no sure. That doesn't appear that bad but you know how that goes. That and I've never had much luck with items that were rebuilt.
This is one of things that can happen to anyone and of course Murphy's timing will be impeccable.
-
Ron, never gave that a thought but a great idea. Thank you.
One way or another I'll get it done. Just one of those things in life. Fortunately this is one trip I can adjust. I was laid off last Friday right on schedule for when I planned on Retiring so for my first time I don't have to set everydays time line in stone.

Sooooo the latest, the serial number inside the door of your fridge is but one number for any recall. On the back of the unit from the outside access panel there is another serial number. When we gave them that number it did not fall under the recall HOWEVER it falls under an extended warranty that was given covering till 2020.
Worth noting if anyone wants to know if they are covered under the extended warranty to locate that number and call Norcold. (this is not for the recall) The number is 1-800-543-1219 .
