Title: Making changes in the forum
Post by: aimee on October 19, 2010, 11:40:58 am
So if somehow you didn't get booted out, or managed to get in even though we are closed down for maintenance, you'll know what's going on. ;)

Aimee - Forum is terrific, but new white type on gray background is difficult to read.  Do we have an option to change the display?

Thank, Guys!  Penny--you can play around with the color themes in the top right corner of the page. There are 12 to choose from, each with its own logo photo.  They all have this same dark background, light text combination.  I may be able to tweak the color of the text a small bit to bring it closer to white, though.

Aimee - Those color themes only change the top header not the posting area.  I'm sure a whiter text would help my old eyes.  Thanks again for all your efforts.

I bumped the text a bit whiter, and increased the size to make things a little easier. Hopefully that will help.

Size helps, but lighter background would make the biggest difference.

The slightly larger, slightly whiter font is an improvement.  For those of us who were involved in computing in the pre PC era, this new format looked a lot like what the old IBM CRTs running off 3090s looked like.  That's not a particularly nostalgic thing for most users.  I do like the new layout in all ways except the body of the note text and you definitely improved that.

IBM 3090's wow, what an upgrade, I started with IBM 360.  Just the other day we were talking at coffee and I made the statement that my GPS has more computing power than the entire company had when I went to work for them in 1973 and we had the second largest computing system in the world at that time.
That does not bring back fond memories.

Sorry back to topic.

 :lol

The old IBM's put my developer back into a not-so-pleasant nostalgic days of early programming. Now that I think of it, he also dislikes a light font on dark background, despite being told repeatedly that it is healthier long-term on eyes, reducing strain, etc.  :lol  When my son had one of those fancy eye exams done at the junior olympics this year, I picked the lead doctor's brain during the very long test about why I feel so tired after a (typical) 14-16 hour day in front of the computer. His #1 recommendation was to work as often as possible with a dark background and lighter text to reduce the amount of strain caused by the bright light from the monitor. Even though that echoed my own eye doctor's recommendation, my developer didn't buy it a bit.   Phhhht IBM  >:(

I can bump the color up a little bit brighter. I tested it a bit brighter, but I thought the contrast was too high. We'll see how it turns out...

I started in 1969 on an IBM 360/25 with 64K memory. Memory board was 4 feet by 4 feet.  :bolt
