Title: Got "Bob" home
Post by: garmp on April 08, 2017, 11:00:57 am
Picked up our new PC2100 last week and got him home. Had a few issues the first night, from water leak to malfunctioning sofa to wrong velcro (two female sides rather than one each) on front shades. All told a total of four things that needed correcting. Earl said, "Pull around to bay 1 and talk to Bob". Got out our list and read it to Bob. He stood there with a blank look on his face and after a moment he asked, "Is that all?" We took a seat and in no time he came in and said "You're good to go."
What great service! Bob, Earl & Kyle all apologized several times for the faults like they each took the errors to be personal. Bob took real good care of us. Hence the name Bob!
Now that we're home we're looking for final touches that we need you help with.
1.) The sofa bed isn't bad, but it's a sofa bed. We had similar in our SportsMobile. But in that we left the bed made full time and had a bulky mattress pad on top. What type topper do you use and how/where do you store it? Our shower is filling up fast.
2.) Almost ordered the Magne Shade but don't like the idea of something on the outside. And want something that is not see through. What type/brand of windshield shade do you use?

Garmp, I have posted about these sun screens for the windshields on this forum in the past.   I think they are pretty great and for less than fifty bucks.

roflol  I had 16 items on my list and they gave me pretty much the same look.  And jumped right in and fixed everything.  Of course I had another list by the time I got home but at 2,500 miles away I'm not going back to see the folks there any time soon.

Glad to hear you are past that first shake down trip.  Here's wishing you many,  many  more happy adventures  with Bob.
Our last MH (Forest River Lexington) had a similar floorplan.  We used a 2" memory foam pad on a jack-knife sofa .  We stuffed it behind the sofa. In the PC, you might have to build some kind of ledge to protect the sofa motor and wires.  Unfortunately, the pillows had to remain on the sofa or the dinette seats.  Our blankets were stored in the cabinet above.  They are relatively thin polar fleece.

We really like our Magne Shades .  At night we just pull the factory installed shades closed.  I really haven't seen anybody  paying much attention to them in campgrounds.  I'm rather cynical when it comes to human behavior, so yeah I  think about them being stolen but took the risk because they really reduce the heat coming in the windshield.

We too, think very highly of Bob and Carol but named our PC  "Gopher" before we met them.  We found ours at the, Good Sam Rally,  in Phoenix .  After thinking about it for a day or two, we just said  "let's go for it".  We couldn't be happier.

So, what has everybody else named their PCs?

We seem to be stuck and have not named ours yet.  And we always name our cars.  Currently driving Myrtle, and before that Mable, and before that Martha.

But have not found a good name for our PC yet.

We stole our name from somewhere on the net and call it the 'Cramalot Inn'.

Garmp, good to hear you have seasoned the opening salvo of PC ownership.  As for naming our PC, we are BIG fans of J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter books; so we named our Phoenix Cruiser "Fawkes" after Professor Dumbledore's phoenix bird.  The bird was instrumental in carrying Harry and friends away from danger just in the nick of time. (cheer)  Our "Fawkes" is poised in our driveway to save us from "hitch itch" just in the nick of time.  ;)    :)(:

Ours is named "Spirit" which is short for "Spirit of the Woods" - which is where we like to be with her - settled under gorgeous trees, listening to the sounds of nature.

We got our first PC, it was all green so we named him Kermit (after the frog) , not knowing that Kermit was the name of the owner. was
embarrassing when we found out. Our second Pc was same color, so Kermit ll.  My Tahoe is called Tootsy

I bought a roll of the thin silver faced bubble pack material from Home Depot and cut a piece slightly wider (6") than the windshield.  I open the doors , fold in the extra 3" and carefully close the doors on the excess material which keeps it in place. Not a perfect fit but it does the job of blocking 95% of the heat. Also made pieces for the front doors which I just press into place on the inside. Did this as a temporary measure 2 seasons ago but it worked so well I am still using them. Very inexpensive so if you don't like it you aren't out much$.
We added 3" memory foam to our twin beds and love it but we don't have the storage issue you have to deal with.
Best of luck and safe travels in your new PC.

Garmp.......Not sure what your budget might be but Cleanandcool.com makes some super insulated interior screens that Velcro up.   I have a set for my Freightliner and they work super in the cool/cold weather and they look really nice with white on the side you see  from the outside and grey on the interior side.  They are all made in the USA.  The screens all fold up nicely.   Good luck.

Ours is simply called "the camper", the same name as the first one.  I wonder if we had a dog if we would call it "dog"......like that movie Babe with the sheep herder dog trainer calling his pig "pig".

Our 2100 with slide is our "Sweet Ride."
As to bedding....
There are several other threads on this site you can search by "sheets", "electric sofa", or "bedding."  To sum up:
1. Some people use some sort of sleep sack (like a sleeping bag)
2. Some use standard sheets and blankets and make them work.
3. I made the move from tent camping to an RV for all the comforts of home, including sleeping in a bed with sheets and blankets--not a sleeping bag of any kind. My solution was to make some custom fitted sheets and blankets.  We added a 1" memory foam topper, custom fitted mattress pad and leave the bedding on all the time and put a decorative throw over it during the day.

I will have the Sweet Ride in the drive in a week getting ready for our first trip.  If you want detailed information, I can send you an email with photos, videos, etc.

As to storing in the shower....
We do utilize that area for storage as well. Keep in mind weight.  The 2100 already has a lot of rear end weight so try to  use the shower for light weight items.  Same goes for the rear outside compartment--keep the weight down as much as possible.

Adding to Nicki's comments with regards to sheets fitting properly.

We learned that 100% cotton "flannel" fitted & flat sheets are very conforming to many different size mattresses and sofa beds.  Before you get out your sewing machine, try buying a set of 100% cotton flannel sheets and shrink the heck out of them.  Once they have shrunk so badly, they will shape to your needs....of coarse within reason.

These postings on vehicle names remind me of some of the clever names of Provan Tigers I've run into on TigerOwners.freeforums.org.  One is called the "Tardis" after the Dr. Who time travel device, which is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.  Of note re. these vehicles, quality of wiring, frame extension welding, and some other issues is as variable as any other RV by Forest River, Thor, or Fleetwood, and not as consistently good as Phoenix Cruiser.  But, as I'm likely to keep working another year and a half, there's still plenty of time to explore those vs. the 4x4 Phoenix Cruiser vs. Hallmark slide-in popup campers, etc.  Names?  Best of all time was the Land Rover called the "Anti-Christ" from the movie, "The Gods Must Be Crazy."

Think we've solved the sofa/bed issue and even the sun screen dilemma by ordering one from HeatSheild. Hasn't arrived yet, so we're not sure just how "perfect" it is.
And since this discussion has turned to "naming" our RV. My Aunt & Uncle were from California, while I lived in the MidWest, and they had a truck camper that raised up for occupying and down for travel. They called it the Laniru. I always thought, how avant garde of them, being west coasters, hip to new things, and almost islandish, ocean and all to a degree. Come to find out the exotic name is Urinal spelled backwards.
Gotta love ingenuity.
Ps. DW wouldn't even entertain the thought of using that name.

Since I've just ordered my 5th PC, I think I'll call this one "quits"!

Jack I wouldn't do that. It might want to prove you wrong. Besides look at your track record. The 2018s will be out shortly after you get number 5.
