Hi all,
Karen and I brought the Midnight Rambler (our 2552) home last week! 2o2
I was wondering if anyone has found a bug screen that fits over the grille without any scuffing, or better yet, a way to attach screening behind the grille to keep the bugs and road debris out of the AC condenser and radiator.
Also looking for and quality windshield sunscreen in black or gray. The type that Kyle offered were very nice but very expensive, and I was concerned about them walking away while out sightseeing.
Your thoughts and ideas are most welcome.

Bill, take a look at these:
https://eclipsesunshades.net/
We had one on our previous motorhome's windshield and loved them. Our PC was eleven months old when we adopted her and the first owner had purchased those nice dark magent attached exterior shades, so we use them. Candidly, I think the Eclipse setup is very preferable in many ways. Lot less money, too. This is a small company and as I recall is in
El Paso. You can call them and they can answer any questions about their product.

Bill,
Here is a link to an old post on window screens. We have now used these for 8+ years and they still look brand new. We bought the material at a local awning shop, gave them a pattern of our windshield and side windows and it cost in total about 80 dollars. We attach the windshield one with heavy duty Velcro and use magnets for the side windows.

Bill G,
I know you are looking for something better than what I use, so I am re-posting THIS (http://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php/topic,2513.0.html) for others considering exceptionally affordable sunshades.

Just a bug splat FYI. . .to remove dried on bug bodies from the fiberglass body after a day's (or more) drive, use a well moistened laundry drier strip. You'll be amazed at the ease and the results. 2o2 :)(:

We did purchase the expensive ones sold by the factory. Feel they were well worth the money -- but would have like to spend much less money at an awning shop. The beauty of the screens is that they not only keep out sun, but peeping eyes (except at night if you have interior lights on) and those inside can see out. They also act like window screens so we can keep front windows open for ventilation with very few if any bugs entering.
A word of caution: The magnets are tricky to apply. If you drop one when affixing it to the windshield and it falls in that crack between dash and window, it is lost and gone forever. Learned my lesson once and after that sealed that area off for balance of installation. Also, when/if the windshield needs to be replace, you need to rescue the magnets and get new adhesive pads from the factory to reinstall the magnets.

MagnaShades all the way. I have had two sets and they look and work great. They now offer a perfect color match option or have a specific design imprinted. Company is superb to work with and they are based in NC. Go directly thru the company and you will safe a few bucks vs's thru PC

Thanks to all for the ideas.
Ron, I remember seeing your post before and will keep it as plan B, but looking up local awning shops now, thanks Berry. tymote
I figured out how to remove the grille and will be doing that tomorrow to see if I can brainstorm a way to attach screening behind it. Any ideas or :help would be deeply appreciated.

Bill,
Placing a bug screen behind the grill might not allow for adequate cleaning of the screen. You want to be able to clean the screen properly or a build-up of bugs might block air flow. Just something to keep in-mind with your planning.

Ya Ron I thought of that too. Some sort of removable screen insert in the different grille openings would be best. I have an idea in my over active pee brain, just getting to it is the problem.
How does you AC condenser and radiator look after years on the road?

We had the factory install the Magne Shades and they work just fine except there is no privacy at night with the interior lights on. So we bought Heatshield brand shades. Heatshields are custom made for many vehicles including Ford E350 and E450, so the fit is perfect. These are silver on one side and do a remarkable job keeping out the heat. You can't see through them either. The nice thing about the Magne Shades is that they let in a little light so we use them when we stay in camp all day. But we use the Heatshields at night.

Hey Bill!
I was as our local Walmart the other evening, walking through their clearance section and found this for $3. I bought it. Maybe I will try it on our next trip. My only concern is if it could damage the paint or Diamond Shield.
Anyone here have experience with this type of bug screen?

Bill:
Just a suggestion on the grille - spray it with PAM - the bugs wash off easily, and you don't have to worry about impeding air flow.
