Title: Tourer or Destination Camper?
Post by: garmp on August 12, 2016, 05:34:59 pm
How many PC owners are:
Destination Campers, those who drive to a specific destination and stay there the entire time or most of their trip
or
Tourers, those who visit/stay at a different campground every or every other day?
Just courious,

I'm not sure full timers work with your query but if they do, you missed "wanderers". Once we got used to being able to go where we wanted, when we wanted, we tended to stay in an area longer with a few days to a few weeks at one site and sometimes a month or more in one general area.

We are "tourers", but with a week at each major destination, like a national park.  We will tour, with one or two night stops, until we get to each major destination, then spend a week getting to know that location before moving on to the next.

No more than three days at most at any one spot.

Both.  About 3 weeks to a month each year we will do a long trip, usually out west and tour.  Then about 3 times a year we will stay at the beach, mountains or lake for a week at a time, or maybe a long weekend.

We are travelers rather than campers spending a few days to a week at each destination along our route.  In the past 12 years our trips have been from 1 to 3 months.

Twice a year, spring and fall, we attend a rally with a group and usually spend about 5 days at a chosen location.   Other times we plan a get together to meet up with friends at various parks for about 5 days or so.  We just returned from a 5 day stay in the NC mountains.

We do a combination generally.  Spend a few days exploring at each stop until we reach the destination we really set out for, then we spend much more time there.

We tour like Polish Prince does, but our stays at national parks usually are 3 to 5 days.  At large national parks like Yellowstone for example, we could burn a few weeks but utilizing more than one campground.  We were at Glacier a few years ago.  The weather was so good for so long, we spent 9 days in just one primitive campground, and 4 more around that.  Sometimes the weather determines how long our stays become.

PCs are great for this type of travel & utilization.

Like most...a combination.
Lived in our 2100 for over a month between houses and it worked great. Once done skiing may repeat in a warmer climate during the winter.
Heading to California (from Colorado) and will do combo of daily moves and several days in one place.

We spent a total of a month this year off hookups in the National Forest in Northern New Mexico.  We bought a 2350 specifically with this kind of camping in mind.  For the two of us and 55 pounds of Sally Ann the Wonder Dog, it is perfect.  Essentially, we escaped the heat of the plains and came home last weekend to much cooler weather.  The large black tank in the 2350 makes this kind of camping possible.  The 200 watts of solar I put on the roof and the additional 100 I added in a portable setup with a 50 foot cord (since we camp in trees and have limited sun on the roof) allowed us to have great batteries at all times, even during several rain days.  Many NF and BLM campgrounds in the drought of the West allow you to "drip your gray" tank, returning to the earth the water you take from it.

In a few years Sally will be gone and we probably will go back to Class Bs and just tour the country.   BUT, a 2100 would be perfect for that as well and have the luxury of a dry bath and more room in general.
