Title: Driving lights/fog
Post by: ragoodsp on August 13, 2015, 11:13:16 am
I have searched low and high for OEM lights that would fit in the cut outs in the lower cowl of my E-450.  I can not find anything.  Has anyone found what light would fit nicely into those cut outs?   I know I could use some stock lights but I would love to maintain the nice look and fit.  I have not called PC but I assumed that cowl was stock Ford?  (it is different than the F series I know)  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, Ron G.

I think you will end up resorting to aftermarket fog lamps.  There are so many kinds and colors of bulbs and housing sizes out there.  I would think the right kit would fit the openings well along with creative mounting brackets.

We have the PC-USA installed fog lamps on our 2007 with the optional front bumper cover of that time period.  To be honest, I don't think the fog lights make a hill of beans difference.  It's all about styling.  The E-Series head lamps do a great job all by themselves.

Thanks Ron, I kind of expected I would have to "make do" with some off the shelf model that comes close.  Ron G.

Nothing.  They work great Tom.  That was my point.  :)

The E series lights are OK Tom especially with Silverstar upgraded bulbs, I just like a little fill in light down low that a nice set of driving lights would supply.   Thanks

Sorry, I meant to say E-series fog lights.

Another alternative is aftermarket driving/fog lights. We chose aftermarket Driving Force lights mounted on a Go Rhino Grille Guard. We had ford driving and fog lights on earlier vehicles that were more for show than functional. We are very satisfied with our current setup. There are different lenses for driving (clear), fog (yellow), and snow (blue). We use the fog lenses mostly on our motorhome, but move the lights to our F150 pickup truck in the winter for use when driving in the snow or our long Alaskan nights. We have been using them for 3 years and are very happy with them.

Now those are serious fog lights, ideal for living in Alaska as you do.  They are like a second set of head lights.  2o2

It looks like your rig is also a 4x4.  So how did you mount the light bar.  :)  In all seriousness, a light bar might not be so far fetched of an idea considering where your travels take you.

A few too many close calls with moose and caribou crossing the roadway at dusk and dawn convinced us that the investment in the lights and grille guard was worthwhile. After installation my first close encounter was with a deer in Ohio. Since then we have had a number of encounters on the AlCan and Alaska highways with everything from Dall Sheep to Wood Bison. The only hit was in broad daylight with  a crazed whitetail on a back road in Western Pennsylvania. The lights do provide a measurable safety margin in low light conditions. The grille guard is from Go Rhino and includes the light bar. It is a simple bolt on installation to the frame. The Driving Force lights are Australian and are very common in Western Canada and Alaska. Several manufacturers now offer LED setups that are much more compact than these for driving lights.

I've done HID kits in both the headlights and done foglights as well.  I also did a light bar in the bumper opening.
