Hi Friends,
My husband James and I have just taken delivery of our brand new 2100, and we just love her. We're trying to customize it to work for us, and we're wondering what some of you have done. First, has anyone hung an over-the-door towel rack at the bathroom? On ours, there's a lip at the top, which looks like it might make that impossible. Any other thoughts about hanging up hand and bath towels? Also, where have you found to be the most convenient place for the toilet paper holder? Has anyone used racks or toilet paper holders with suction cups? Do they just flop on the road? Thanks so much. We are trying to be absolutely sure we know what we're doing before we start drilling holes....

I have to admit I have not found a spot I like for the toilet paper or the hand towel, so they both sit on my bathroom countertop. I did put two big 3M stick hooks on the shower wall to hang towels. I understand the reluctance to drill holes when you are trying to figure where you want things. I have moved hooks multiple times before I settle on the perfect spot. That's why I use the removable stick-on, because they really do remove without damage.
-
Thanks so much for your response. Does the stick-on one stay put when you're driving, or does it have to be taken down each time? Can you give me more info on the stick-on towel holder? Is it the kind that has tension and holds in place that way?

Hello, Welcome, and Congratulations, Beth and James. :)
I have a 2351 so the bathroom layout is very different. Not sure if there is any place in yours that this would work, but am posting it in case it does help either you or someone else.
I purchased a swivel towel holder from Ikea and brought it with me when I picked up my unit. The factory installed it for me (also the TP holder and a towel hook in the kitchen). This way I didn't have to worry about screwing something into a bad spot.
I've included pictures of the towel holder. The two longer bars swivel out from the wall which is nice when I want the towel to be spread out to dry some. Otherwise, I keep the bars with the towels flat against the wall. In my bathroom, there is enough room for the towel rack to be mounted to the left of the shower door opening with the bars extending out along the toilet wall. There is a very short knob below the two longer bars that also swivels. I hang a tote bag on that (used for supplies when I use a campground shower).
Measurements: From the wall to the end of the long towel bars: 15 1/2 inches
From the top to the bottom of the mount: 8 1/2 inches
Width of mount: 1 inch
I believe Ikea sells this in two sizes and if memory serves, I have the smaller of the two.
Good luck and have fun!

Beth and James,
Congratulations on the new PC.
We do not like putting holes in our unit either. If you click on this link http://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php/topic,903.0.html here is how we mounted our toilet paper holder. My DH built it out of wood and then stained it to match the unit. He then attached it with double sided tape and it is 4 years and still holding. Our unit is a 2551 so the layout is different then yours.
We favor the 3M command hooks and have used them in the shower to hang a shower caddy and then two hooks to hang wet coats when necessary. The shower caddy is four years and counting and I leave our soap, shampoo and conditioner on it when we travel without any issues. Here is a link to an old post that shows our shower caddy and towel bar in our 2008 2350 that we sold. http://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php/topic,156.msg10177.html#msg10177
Our shower door is glass so we were able to mount two towel bars with double sided tape. The towels stay on them when we travel and we have had no problenms with them.

Thanks for the tips so far. The 2100 is tiny, of course, but when my husband gets home, we'll take a look and see if any of the last two suggestions will work for us.
Very grateful for the support. We are both two of the least handy people on the planet!
Thanks,
Beth

The hooks I use are the 3M Command Adhesive. There are many types and styles, but the ones that are specifically for "Bath" hold best on the shower wall under moist conditions. The ones I used are like this:
-
That's great. I'll check them out. And they stick while you're driving?

My husband and I just bought a 2013 2100 and are going through the same decision making as you. Seems like a lot of us do not want to drill into the walls, etc.
We found a stick on toilet tissue holder in Ace Hardware and attached it to the inside of the bathroom door.
I had some very good suction towel bars and hooks for wash cloths and towels from our previous RV that I attached to the back and front walls of the shower. Also attached a suction caddie for shampoo, soap, etc.
to the shower wall. We have had our 2100 just three weeks but so far so good with things staying put. Our bathroom door is not designed for an over the door hook either.
I found a stick on paper towel holder that I attached vertically on the back wall to the left of the kitchen window. I'm still working on the best place for kitchen trash. For now we purchased a small plastic waste basket that fits in the step well next to the wall. It doesn't interfere with the screen door or getting in or out of the Cruiser but I really don't like it there.
I would love to hear if any of you have other ideas for the 2100. It actually has much more storage space than we thought.

You 2100 owners don't have any wall space for a towel bar with exception to the door itself. But I would think anything sticking out from the door would make it impossible to move around in the bathroom while the door is closed. That will take some serious creativity.
-
I have not had any of the 3M Command Hooks come loose while driving or under any other conditions. However, the heaviest item would be a big bath towel, so that's not a serious challenge.
Ron, yes you are right, anything sticking out from the bathroom door wouldn't be desirable, in my opinion, because the floorspace in the 2100 bathroom is pretty much a postage stamp to turn around in. My shower has the majority of the bathroom floorspace, so that's where I put my laundry basket.
-
We are thinking of putting the paper towel holder under the cabinet behind the light. And we were thinking of keeping all the garbage under the bathroom sink. Would love to hear any other ideas, too. My husband is afraid the toilet paper dispenser on the inside of the door would make it hard for him to get around.
-
On our 2350 we had the towel bar mounted one above the other in the shower on the side wall. When we took a shower we put the towels on the sink until needed. After the showers, the towels when back in the shower out of the way and out of sight. In a small space looks can matter so you don't feel closed in.
On our 2552 with the bigger bathroom, we mounted the towel bars one above the other on the inside of the sliding door and the toilet paper next to them.
-
What did you use to mount the racks IN the shower? We're concerned about hurting the surface. Thanks.

Just to make a point here....I am very impressed that you have a dry bath in a rig so short. Something has to give somewhere. It isn't much bigger in our 2350. The saving grace we have is that our toilet is on an inside wall with some blank wall space above it for this towel rack. The picture demonstrates poor utilization, but we typically have towels rolled up standing vertically. They stay in place and it works pretty well.

I am not one of those who are against using screws and drilling holes. I think that who ever buys my PC aremore likely to be thankfull that the bars are there and not how they attached. If I trade it, the dealer won't care.
That being said, I am a big fan of command strips and bath strips for wet areas. Great for hooks and soap dishes, etc.
Don't leave glass bottles in the shower or on open shelfs when traveling.
-
I assume PC-USA still uses 1/8" paper-coated luan board for the wall panels as used in our 2007. If so, be sure to pre-drill for mounting screws, and it is important to pre-drill to the I.D. of the wood screw thread. If the hole is too small the board can crumble or shatter. If drilled too big, the screw strips. Coarse threaded shallow wood screws are best.
-
We added these to our PC and are happy with all the choices. The suction cups in the bath work great and have surprisingly never fallen, even over the winter in storage, although I do push on them occasionally to reseat them.
-
Are all of these held with suction cups?
-
No. Only the two accessories in the shower use suction cups as pictured. The others are attached with screws. There's a wood header behind the sliding door panel to anchor the towel bar securely.
-
We liked the towel bar on the door so well, we added a second one as pictured...
-
Go Phoenix, sorry to be dense. But do I understand that the towel rack is in the shower but it's not on a suction cup?
-
Mount brackets with screws then attach the towel bar. The shower board is pretty thick. Have used this for six years now and works nicely. It’s high and doesn’t get wet. Very solid but not to be used as a grab bar!

Our 2350 shower is confining for me, much more so than for my shorter wife. As a result, I am always disagreeing over her ideas of sticking things on the shower walls for I keep bumping them with my arms, usually to the point that they end up crashing to the floor. She has had shampoo caddies of various configurations, a plastic mirror, and yes, even a pair of nice towel hooks. One caddy hooked on to the shower head. That one stayed up but all it's contents ended up on the shower pan during one of my showers. I placed that caddie outside where she can see it, before every shower I took thereafter. That dang thing stays home now, in a has-been box with many other shower item attempts. I keep it all together as a reminder for her.
Also, given I am the second person to take a shower, I am the one who cleans up. My wife had a clean-up squeegee hung up in there that I fought for an entire trip. She insisted it would make clean-up easier. She just didn't get it that a squeegee can't be used effectively around obstacles. I wipe down the shower with a wash cloth. Obstacles make clean-up difficult.
I am so glad I refuse to drill a hole in the shower wall for I'd be ripping the screws out with some of my elbow jabs. We will see what this season presents. Last I looked, we have only a stick-on soap dish of which I am fine with. It is a constant battle. I keep trying to get her to simply bring in what she needs and take it out when done, bar of soap excluded.
We hang our wet towels over the shower door bar until dry.
We are so happy to have a real workable bathroom and shower, but we can't equip it like we have at home. There simply is not enough room for that. You 2551/2552 big corner shower owners probably can't relate to my dilemma.

Ron,
When we had the 2350 I bought this shower caddy at walmart and it still works for us in our 2551. I attached it with a 3M command hook at the top and it has suction cups to hold it against the wall. We also travel with all our soap, shampoo, conditioner in place and have never had an issue. I also keep a squeege and cloth sponge underneath for drying the shower.
This picture is actually the one from our 2350.

Barry has always said that he found the 2350 shower to be a better fit for him than the 2551 corner shower. The shape of the shower area in the 2350 made it easier to use. What is nicer about the 2551 bath area is the amount of space outside the shower.
I side with Irene on this issue. :)

Sue, the shower caddie we had is similar to the one you show. Somehow I always had the contents crashing on the floor.
People do tell me that I have long arms. Maybe that is why my elbows find everything.
-
Ron turn off the hip hop music and stop dancing around in there.

I am 6 foot and 235 lbs and never had your problems, but then I don't dance around in there. I agree the shower in the 2350 is larger and better than the 2552.

No More Ballroom Dancing In The Shower??? Has that been my problem??? Even though it is hard to get into frame, I don't know if I can live without that. I think I will just stand firm. It's just that those stick-on things are so hard on my feet. :)
I am surprised the rear corner shower in the 2551 and 2552 are more restrictive than the one in our 2350.

That's why I use the removable stick-on, because they really do remove without damage.
For the towels I used the 3M adhesive tape hooks on sliding bathroom door and use a round curtain rod to the towels. I have two sets, one below the other, spacing out the length of the towels. works great. For the toilet tissue I mounted it just above the heater vent in the corner which faces the toilet. that works too. Hope this helps

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. Some of them work better than others in the 2100, which is a very small unit, but they're all interesting and informative. I'm so glad we'll be able to continue counting on you guys for help and suggestions!

I know that this reply is not directly applicable to the main subject here, but I want to give my point of view on the 2350 vs the 2552 shower. We had a 2350 before we purchased our 2552, so I've experienced both. Maybe it's because of my size (only 5'6" and 138 lbs.), but I much prefer the shower in the 2552. There's plenty of room inside for a great shower and I prefer the hinged door rather than the accordion one. I do like to open the door to make more space when making my final towel down before stepping out of the shower.

Soon where did you place your towel bars?

Never had a problem when driving. Weight of the towel holds it down. Just put up two 3mlarge hooks with tape that comes with the hooks and the curtain rod just sits on the hooks and the towels holds the rod down. Its never has fallen while traveling.
-
Tom,
Our primary towel bar in our 2552 is an "Over Door 3 Bar Towel Rack" like the ones at Camping World Item #71552 or #43953. It fits nicely on the shower door. I've wrapped some velcro around the points that touch the door so that the rack doesn't bang around while traveling.
We also use several "Over the door single hooks" that we hang from the top of the shower enclosure--one or two on the outside near the sink and a couple more inside to hang dripping wet items.
I like the idea of having a towel bar on the sliding bathroom door--might add that too.

Have the 2100. One over-the-door towel rack. Also a pressure curtain rod running the length of the bathroom (back wall to over medicine cabinet). Sits above the shower door frame and is used mainly for drying wet towels/laundry (but we are short so not a problem). When driving, put a binder clip on all towels so they stay put.

found a a free standing dowel type --then a metal one-- at a home decor store-- just secure when

Am a big believer in those Command Strips. Wasglad when they came out with various strengths and water proof ones. I, too, am leery to put holes in the walls --fearing hitting wires or having something pull out making a bigger hole.
Even put strong C-Strips on the bathroom door. ☺️
Liked the IKEA seeing out bars.
I enjoy reading all the clever tips!
