Is anyone as "dense" as me about the standard position of the rear view monitor in the PC? I feel foolish posting this, but maybe someone else can benefit from my latest discovery:
I've been less than happy with the need to turn my head so much in order to get a good view of the monitor. I'm somewhat "height handicapped" and have needed to tilt my head up to even see the monitor while driving. I've been considering moving the monitor to the rear view mirror position as Ron has suggested in previous posts.
I just discovered that the monitor doesn't need to stay in the position it was in when the PC was delivered to us. It finally occurred to me to look behind the monitor and see how easy it is to adjust the position to my liking. I can now shift my eyes to it about as easy as when looking at the Ford rear view mirror. This works fine for me and I can keep the Ford mirror with its handy temperature and direction features.
The good part of the story is that it only took about 6,000 miles of driving to discover this. :lol

Don't feel bad, it took me a few mile to move the sun visor the the it came and move it to cover the top of the windshield, then I could move the monitor where it would be easy to see while driving.

Bruce, please add us to the dense list. That's a pretty nice pivot it is mounted on... and so easy to adjust. A helpful to you for saving us a lot of neck twisting. I drive close to the wheel so the monitor was behind my line of sight. Now I can just turn my head. This is just one more thing to remind me to pull out all those manuals and read through them... some day.

My rear-view monitor is where the rear-view mirror would normally be and I have a stand-alone GPS for direction and destination. I believe a rear-view mirror to be useless and precludes space for meaningful information.

It's nice to know that at least one person found my original post on this topic to be useful. Thanks for the "helpful."
We use a Garmin GPS on the dash for direction and destination, too. It's much more helpful to us than either of the rear-view devices.
The rear-view mirror has come in handy for us more than once--that's why I was reluctant to swap it out for the rear-view monitor. A few times the monitor failed to operate while we were traveling. The rear-view mirror, regardless of how little we use it, provides some comfort in addition to the side mirrors. Low-tech sometimes comes to the aid of a high-tech device.

I love the rearview mirror, too! There is a blind spot behind me that the side mirrors cannot pick up. The rear camera doesn't either, as I have it set to view fairly close to my bumper to assist with backing into places. The rearview mirror helps me with that blind spot, although it took awhile to get used to what I was seeing and where it was. I also rely on the compass on the mirror when selecting a camping spot. If it is hot and sunny, I like to park with my nose facing East, if possible. Gives the hot midday and late afternoon sun less surface and window area to bake me!

We could use some "baking" here near Chicago. Winter weather came so fast and won't relieve. We didn't quite finish our outdoor & garage prep. I still need to cover our house a/c unit and had hoped for one final detail with yard clean-up. My wife had insisted I don't hang up her bicycle for the winter. I hung it last night, winter is here to stay. I sure hope this is not going to be last year's winter.
Could you in the warm sunny south blow some of that up here please? :)

Glad you found a better position for the monitor. When our unit was new, it came mounted on the
ceiling, which felt really unsafe to crane the neck to look at it and eyes off the road!
took it to a local rv shop and gad it moved to eye level on left side of dash .
Wonderful! Now all it takes is just shifting eyes to the left and back!
Was not a major operation---easy for them to do. Guess there was plenty of cord/ wire.
Just an idea that may help someone.

Now that is the best solution for the relocation of the back-up monitor. Puts the view right where you need it without having to move your eyes away. Your mirrors, windshield and monitor now are all I normal eye level. Thanks for a great idea.

Sounds like a great idea, but it wouldn't work for us. We tow "her" car, leaving "my" large sedan at home. She like to keep track of "her" car and looks at the monitor often. (WH)

The only issue I have is when I get the monitor just right the next time I get up to go to the back of the coach it never fails I "whack" my head very hard on the screen! That is life!

Oh Yes! That was my problem which was my primary reason to move the monitor to the mirror position. No more head whacks since. The change works out real well. Also, in the original position I could not pivot the screen to the driver adequately. I still can't get it exactly perpendicular, but so much better than before. I also have a less obstructed view out the windshield because the 5" monitor is smaller than the original mirror.
In this picture, you can see where the monitor was originally mounted into the headliner. Note the hole and flattened material. I'd like to make a shallow sunglasses tray up there but have yet to get to it using some old kitchen cabinet drawer material left from my reconfiguration project HERE (http://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php/topic,1751.0.html). I need to be sure I don't hit my head on that either. I was even thinking of exploring a junk yard to find a headliner sunglasses tray from another vehicle.
