Title: electric couch vs new version
Post by: GrandmaQ on July 04, 2010, 04:45:53 pm
The previous owner of our 2551 removed the couch and installed two chairs in its place.  We plan to reinstall a couch and understand we now have a choice between the original electric fold-out couch and a new one that has an air mattress inside.  We'd love input from any one about the pros and cons to help us make our decison.

We purchased a new 2551 in April with the new sofa/air bed.  When we were shopping for the RV, we had an opportunity to sit in one with the old electric fold-out sofa and the new sofa/air bed.  We found that the new sofa is much more comfortable to sit on and it sticks out 6 or 8 inches less than the old one when in the sofa position, a big difference considering the room available.

We slept on the air bed once and it is ok - not great, but it is for the grandkids and they think it is great.  We are really happy with the new one for sitting comfort and more floor space.

Hope this helps,
Bob

I have a 2551 with the air mattress.   I tried it once just to try it in case we had guests who would use it.  It is fine, not great, but really ok.   The other poster made some good points about comfort and space when closed.  I would go with the air mattress.

I agree with all of the above. Ours has the air bed and the kids love it.

Another PC owner owns a dog.  His dog's toe nail put a hole in the air mattress.  If you travel with a cat with claws or a dog, that should be a consideration.

tymote  Thank you all.  That really helps.  We don't have pets.  The sofa will be mainly for sitting on with grandkids sleeping on it occasionally so I think we'll go with the new one.
