Title: Another gasket question
Post by: RKS on June 08, 2014, 05:25:38 pm
Removed the cover on the spare tire today to check pressure and discovered the rubber gasket is in need of replacement.  Any suggestions on type and a source?.
Thanks
Bob

Bob,

I would call PC and ask to talk to Carol.  We bought our door weatherstripping from her a couple of weeks ago.  Great price, fast shipping and she even measured to make sure we did not buy too little or too much.

Bob

I'm not sure if the seal around the spare tire cover is a pressure fit or if it is glued in place.  If it is glued in place I found solvent and a light duty scouring pad worked best to get any residual glue off.  I first used  a paper towel and it didn't cut through the adhesive and left a thin film so I switched to a very light scrubby.

Barry,
The gasket construction is of a hard rubber channel type that presses on to the cover and there does appear to be some type of residue on the cover itself, probably the glue you refer to. Softer rubber tubing portion of the gasket is the main culprit, as this has peeled away from the harder material in many places.
Thanks again
