This National Park has the most spectaular scenery that I ever seen. Yesterday, we toured the South Rim and this morning we drove (in the Fit) down 2200 feet to the bottom of the canyon along the Gunnison River. I can say that it was the most harrowing road that I have ever been on!!!!! If anyone gets a chance, visit this NP. Absolutely beautiful!
We are staying at the Black Canyon/Montrose KOA. This is the nicest KOA that we have stayed at.
Tomorrow, off to Mesa Verde National Park, then Arches. Grand Canyon after that and then on home.

It sounds lovely!

Omigosh! We are very envious. That looks like one gorgeous place (just looked it up)! And the fishing sounds extraordinary, being a 'gold medal water'! How treacherous is the drive down to the river?
-
The ride down to the river was 16 degree grade--very steep! 2700 feet down, low gear all the way. For me, scary!!! For George, not so! Length of vehicle is restricted to 22 feet.
This NP has been the hilite of our trip so far--as I said before: BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We went there in 2009. That is one beautiful canyon.
We were told during a ranger talk in the campground at the rim, the park (not the canyon) is one of the darkest places in the country, having the least amount of light polution at night. The moon-less night, the stars were quite dramatic.
How did you get a 2910 down in the canyon? There used to be a length limit that did not permit our 2350 down inside. Fortunately we towed our little MR2 Spyder.
BTW: the park campground had electic sites. That is very unusual for a national park. Nice to work the roof a/c as it was hot there.
