Title: retractable steps
Post by: jmosier on January 04, 2013, 07:26:30 pm
Hi, just recieved my 2552 a few days ago and when I was driving down the driveway the steps come out.  Then the wen back in.  They kept dowing this until i turned off the PC.  I also noticed that when I close the do it takes a few minutes before the step decided to return.  If anyone has had similiar problems please let me know if it is a quick fix.  Thanks

JM:

Sure sounds like the small  button down at the bottom of the door frame on the right side needs to be adjusted so that it strikes the  door  better or the slide terminal on the back needs to be cleaned and or tightened.   Should not be a big issue

I would check the door switch adjustment to make sure that that the bolt is adjusted long enough to close the switch.  The sw is located on bottom right corner of door.

Hope this helps.

We had the same problem a few years ago and talked to Kermit while on the road as to how to fix it.  There are two things you need to check:
1.  Make sure the bolt with the jam nut on it on the door fully engages with the button switch.
2.  The wires for the switch had rubbed on the step frame and was shorting out so make sure the wires for the switch are insultated and not shorting.

In case you are on the road as we were we had to pull the fuse by the kick panel on the drivers side door and then fix it when we got home.
By pulling the fuse the door permanently retracted and then we fixed it at home.

We are also experiencing  a similar problem.  We adjusted the bolt that activates the switch and that helped except  when it is raining. I expected to find bare wires shorting out but so far it defies resolution...no bare spots visible

We had the same problem on our 2551. I put a self adhesive felt bumper on the head of the adjustment bolt. Never had another problem.

Well I tried adjusting the bolt and nothing changed.  I then started playing with the pressure switch and found that it was not making a good contact all the time so I sprayed WD 40 on it and now it is working as it should.  Will see if it last.  Thanks.
