Title: connecting computer to tv
Post by: mciai2000 on June 24, 2012, 08:45:01 pm
Hi All:

My children have tv shows and movies stored on the laptop computer.  They want to watch the videos on the tv using the computer. Has anyone done this?  If so, what cable do you use?  I can see a trip to best buy is in my future.

Thanks.

David

I have used one of those wide flat cables to connect - I can not for nutz think of the name - the initials are HDMI, I think.  I have also used the usb port for still pictures.

If you have an HDMI plug in place on your PC and on the TV, that's the best way to hook them together.  HDMI gives you high definition with only one cable for audio and video.  Best Buy is seldom the best place to buy cables if you want a decent price.

We buy all of our cables through http://www.monoprice.com/

They have all been a very good price and they are very good cables.  Delivery is inexpensive and they are fast in shipping out your order!!!

If your laptop has an HDMI output, be sure to check to see if it supports both video and audio.  I know mine has the HDMI connection, but it is video only.  You may want to look in the user manual for the laptop.
