Coming Soon!
« on: May 09, 2011, 06:25:02 pm »
Coming soon weighing in at 5.4 tons and 317 inches long with an expected delivery date of 10 weeks.

Okay, we ordered our 2551 today.  Now we are excited.  Our 2008 2350 was delivered to its new home in New Jersey so we were off to the factory today.  We met with Stuart and had a great experience.  He was exceptional in accommodating all of our wants and needs.  He said we were the first to have an order that was more than one page long so you know we asked for alot of changes.  Kuddos to Stuart--he was great to work with.

We went through all the posts on this forum and gave alot of thought to what we wanted and didn't want.  We absolutely loved our 2350 and it was an exceptionally great unit but the opportunity for us to get a little bit larger unit that still will fit in our garage could not be passed up even though the DW cried.  :'(

We kept alot of the things the same as the 2350 like full body paint, no carpet, corian counter extension, no installed table and slide-out.  Some of the things we changed were no ladder or roof rack, swivel driver and passenger seat, motion light on outside, larger overhead cabinets in the winged area, moveable shelves in the shirt closets, door access under the driver side bed, 12 volt plug in bath area, and of course the battery shield.

Phoenix Cruiser employees are the best!!!!  :)

:)   I really enjoy reading posts like this.   :)

Barry-Sue, Did you have the ladder and rack deleted to fit the RV in your garage better?

It would be a very interesting post for you to detail what you learned with your 2350, and how that carried over into your new 2551.

Ron, I was looking closely at my 2350 today, and concluded that you were right.  The rack and ladder are not needed, and I will delete them from any future pc's I purchase.

Another Congrat here! y--You will absolutely love it. Very exciting.

I agree with deleting the ladder. We did not have it installed on our 2350. Much cleaner look for the back end of the vehicle. George wanted it on the 2551 so it's there! No biggy I guess.

Where's the 1st trip?

Thanks for all the good wishes.  Just local trips planned around MI this summer and then off to the East this fall.

Now for what we learned from the 2350 that carried over to the 2551.

1.   Fully body paint - had it and still wanted it.  Our 2350 (brown in color with cherry cabinets) looked better then new when we sold it.  We choose the Classic Umbre with cherry for the 2551.
2.   Leveling jacks - had them and loved them so ordered again.
3.   Premium Convenience package - had and kept it in the new one.
4.   Insulated Glass - had it and loved it so ordered again.
5.   Slide out - had it and loved it so ordered again.
6.   Leather captain chairs - had it and loved it so ordered again.
7.   Window treatmeants - we had all the window treatments the same in the 2350 so kept them that way for the 2551.  In other words they all look like the valence above the sofa/dinette. (DW likes the contemporary look).
8.   No carpet - didn't have it in the 2350 and didn't order it in the 2551. Very easy to wash rugs or buy new ones.
9.   No table hardward installed on floor or on table - didn't have it in the 2350 and converted the table to fold away legs so are going to do the same.
10. No coffee pot - didn't have it and didn't miss it.

The next post will show some of the new things we did since this is getting lengthy.

Part 2 - things we actually chaged from the 2350

1.  No ladder or roof rack - never used it and like the look without.  It would fit in the garage either way.
2.  No hooks or hangers installed in rear storage compartment - we wanted to organize it ourselves.
3.  No mirror by stove - we want to add a metal bar so that our magnetized paper towel holder will hang there
4.  Driver seat swivel - we had the power seat on the 2350 and never used it so we opted to have the driver seat swivel instead.  Will give us that fourth seat we need when we have visitors.  We know it will not swivel all the way like the passenger seat but it will be like other motor homes and have a side swivel.
5.  Access doors under driver side bed per suggestion from this forum
6.  Adjustable shelf in cabinet above the toilet per suggestion from this forum.
7.  No outside shower - never used it on the 2350 except to winterize it so we won't miss it on the 2551.  Why have the opening in the side wall when it isn't needed.
8.  Battery shield per Ron's suggestion.
9.  No hanger bars in shirt closets.  Converted the shirt closet in the 2350 and added shelves so PC offered to add movable shelves to the 2551.
10.  Reversed hinges on passenger side shirt closet so to have easier access for kitchen items. Should have done this on the 2350.
11.  Motion light on outside per suggestion from forum.
12.  Max air fan in place of fantastic fan.
13.  Don't mount fire extinguisher - we moved it in the 2350 so will do the same.
14.  Do not install shower head holder - we installed two in the 2350 and will do the same .  One for me and one for the DW.
15.  Ordered larger cabinets above the winged areas like PC puts in the 3100.  Just more storage.
16.  Ordered a driver side flip table like the passenger side table.  Used this all the time in the 2350 so thought we would like one on each side. The cabinet top was a great place for ipod radio, pictures, battery powered candle etc...
17.  Added a 12 volt plug in bathroom for any 12 volt bath items.

Very nice Barry-Sue,

Are you open to a few more ideas?  If so, here goes.

- Window shade string tensioner reinforcements in areas that can get easily bumped.  The factory does this upon request.  If you have windows by the beds, these will be appreciated.  Bump that stem hard and the screw rips out from the wall.  Not so with the reinforcements.
- One, maybe two additional porch lights mounted along the passenger side of the rig.  Then install lower wattage bulbs.  This greatly reduces glare and eliminates shadows at the campsite at night.  Also request to move the main porch light a foot farther from the entry door so a swarm of bugs around the light are not let in so easily.
- Add one rear mounted porch light and one driver-side porch light, both controlled on a single switch, located next to the main porch light switch by the entry door.  This provides 270 degree camp site lighting when needed.
- If towing a vehicle, add a weather-proof switch next to the rear license plate light (hidden very nicely), to control the back-up lights.  Those lights are perfectly positioned to light up the tow apparatus area.  I am doing this modification myself to eliminate the need to hold a tiny flashlight in my mouth.
- Get either the quiet water pump that runs whenever water is running, or install a water accumulator/pressure tank

Here is a window tensioner reinforcement.  It is the round disk behind the stem.

Here is the water proof switch for the backup lights, purchased on ebay here ----> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Taylor-Waterproof-Sealed-Switch-1026-/330561308091?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4cf6fd45bb

Here is a water accumulator/pressure tank that offers a place to mount the water pump on top.
