Another great company

    Over the weekend I installed the "Horst Miracle Probes" in both my gray and black tanks. First let me say that I am very impressed with the difference between the small button probe that came in the tank and the Horst probes that are about 1 1/2 inches long. The result is that now I have a monitor that really works. It was cold this past weekend and when I went to install the first probe, which was for the black tank, I stripped the brass post with the nut. Big, fat and very cold fingers will do it. This morning I emailed Horst and got a nice email back from Rita asking for my address so that she could send me a replacement for free. Yes I said for free. It was a little hard to remove the old plugs, on the gray I had to push three of them into the tank. The new one went in very easily once I licked the rubber part first, made them slide right in.

    I would strongly suggest that everyone who wants a working monitor change out their probes with these new probes. Their web site is http://www.rvprobes.com/buyprobes.html I first heard about them from the news letter of the Phoenix club and have seen mention of them on here.

Fantastic .... I had asked if anyone in the forum had used these probes before.  At the time nobody had.  I was waiting to get input on how well they worked before I made the purchase.  An added plus is the company appears to have good customer service.

So if I read your installation right, you now have hard things in the gray tank ready to go into the pump when you empty?

Yes, you are right.  I did flush the tank using the 3" hose on the back and was able to get one of the three rubber pieces out. The other two and the three screws are still in there. Yes it does worry me a little but there is a lip on the tank where the exit tube is that I hope will keep the screws from the pump. Later this week I will be driving the motorhome and after I get back I will again flush the tank using the 3" hose.

Could a strong magnet manipulated from the outside, move the screws to a easier location in the tank to flush them out ???

Nlk, I read your post and ran outside to try a magnet. The tank is covered in aluminum insulation and electric wires for the heater. Magnet will not work from the outside, so I got a small magnet on a stick for working on my car and stuck it up the tail end of the pipe into the tank. No luck. Then I tried the magnet on one of the screws that I was able to get out. You guess it, the screw was not picked up.

I don't think the screws will be able to get over the tanks lip to get into the pump, at least I hope not. The next couple of times I dump, i might use the 3" hose and not the pump just to be safe.
